...is a boat in a ninety-year old children's book. I can't currently say what her name is, or which book(s) she's from, or who might have written it, right now (because of 'reasons'), but there may be some here who can work that out.

An offspring of, umm, a family directly involved in the original book, has, today, requested a model of that boat mentioned in these books. Full access is granted to the boat in question, that they own, which is currently located in Cumbria, for photos and measuring, before I set to.

Do you know, I do think I think I ought.

When we visited the Jetty last summer, the associated boat(s) were reproductions from one of the films, not historical originals - at least that was what was conveyed to us.

That makes sense--I was thinking traditionally, when lots and lots of British small boats seemed to be clinker built.

But I think those able/willing to build their own would find them more affordable than a new production boat, wouldn't they?

Don’t know about that, Nick, but this link from the Nancy Blackett Trust seems to agree with what we were told about those boats being reproductions for one of the movies.

Purchased at £1 per foot from ship breakers or repair yards. That supply has now dried up, unless you like orange Tupperware.

All of which diverts us from the topic under discussion and congrats to Andy on having the opportunity to create such an iconic model.

Storage and maintenance, I think, Tom.

My very plastic Wayfarer is 29 this year. It takes twenty minutes to pressure-wash her back into shape each season. She cost £1300 a few years ago.

While I'd love a clinker dinghy, and a lugsail at that, it's never going to be practicable.

Shame, really.
