    Default Ranger Minto Sail

OK, the hull is not wood, but trying to see if anyone has specs on the Ranger Minto sail. A kit can be bought to sew own original sail but considering adapting from original cat rig to standing lug or sprit (boomless) and any specs on size, height. Also specs on centerboard and more. We have a hull that has the centerboard opening glassed over and no sail components. Will be wood spars.
Any help, links or ideas would be helpful.

Is yours a Minto 9 or an 11? I have a friend who I think has both. I can ask Eric for measurements.

This is my boat about which Rod kindly agreed to post, because I'm new to this forum (and to forums in general) and I couldn't figure out how to use it : ) The boat is a 9'1" long. Appreciate any help with rigging a boat this size with a standing lug or spritsail.

I'll check with Eric and see if I can get some measurements for you. I think he still has his Minto 9.

Eric still has his Minto 9 and will get me dimensions on the daggerboard, trunk location and rudder for you. Do you want details on the original wood mast? If you're thinking of going to a lug or sprit you'll want to make a beefier mast step and mast partner. The original Minto rig has a pretty wimpy step and partner due to the fact that the cat rig has shrouds.

Thanks for your help. I can tell where the centertrunk needs to go because there is a slot in the hull for it. I am interested in photos for construction ideas. I am interested in the length and general shape of the daggerboard. The thickness will be determined by the width of the slot. I know the dimensions of the original sail design (3-sided), however I don't plan to use that design. I am hoping to find someone who has rigged a Minto or similar (roughly 9' length) boat with specifically a standing lug sail or a sprit sail (a four-sided sail) rather than the originally designed ?shoulder of mutton? or whatever sort of triangular sail it is/was. The reason for this is that I would like to be able to take a couple of reefs in the sail, without changing the center of effort of the sail too much. The intended/designed mast location is very far forward--too far forward for a balanced lug sail. I would rather not move the mast further aft because it's already a pretty small boat with limited seating area. So if we can find a Minto or similar boat rigged with a standing lug or sprit sail, I would be very interested in the lengths and diameters of mast and yard or sprit. I don't plan to use a boom unless it proves absolutely necessary, again because of the size of the boat and I'm already having to find room for the oars. Thanks again for anything you can discover.
