The Favourite Niece wanted, and got, a kitten of Her Very Own, for her 21st birthday, reasoning that (a) she hadn’t had a cat since she was a little girl and (b) a cat would be cheaper and more durable than a boyfriend and less likely to interfere with her studies. So here’s the kitten, practising her Hard Stare:

Within a week of the tabby kitten taking up residence, this kitten spotted a Good Deal and moved in:

The two are about the same age, and rather to human surprise, are friends.

Studying to be a "Mad cat woman"?

At one point my girlfriend (now wife) had as a student, a menagerie which included six variegated cats, a large size lurcher and a bottle fed baby bat.
I'd much rather lay in my bunk all freakin day lookin at Youtube videos .

    AND a boyfriend (now husband)!

(We notice that the line about no boyfriends is hokum).

    I did send her this:

When I moved into my new to me home six months ago, I found two large compost bins full of used kitty litter, i dont have a cat and note that the neighbourhood cats are gradually appropriating my house lot as part of their territory now that the past residents have gone.
My new pup is being trained to be "cat safe" and is coping ok with them.

No issues with the lurcher chasing the cats?

Looking at the pictures I’d say that Luna the long haired tabby knows that she is Top Cat and Charcoal Knows Her Place.

We had 2 brothers and eventually adopted 2 more male strays. They all got along once they were fixed and had personalities as different as night and day. All gone now.

Where to start... My dearest came over from the US with her parents cat. Then, we were buying veges in a roadside hut and there was a tiny kitten... . The stall owner pressed it on us and it settled down. We thought it was too young to produce, but the local big shaggy black cat had ravished her, out of our vision.. So, we had three new kittens..
I got out of hand after that.. Around 10 resident, several fed at the door.. There were all delightful, but....
When we moved to here (that was in Portugal..) we bought five with us.. 1600km in a small car with one moaning all the way.. Not the best drive!
Natural selection has wittled it down to one. He is a local from the abandoned home. Nuts, but good company.
I don't need an alarm clock, he comes in, very vocally, at 0705 every morning...

The kittens I adopted last spring for my home are getting big. That's Spike in the foreground, Mimsy relaxing on my sail bag.

He's a very sweet boy, though wilful, and quite clever. He understands the doorknob principle, for example, but can't get a grip on them because of the tufts of fur on his paws. He did figure out how to turn on the water in the bathtub, so we had to come up with a way of preventing the handles from turning. He also loves to play fetch with plastic springs or paper straws, and is quite insistent when it's time to play.

He's a rescue, and apparently made quite an impression on his foster mom when he was a kitten, too.

What are you doing about it?

I’m astonished! Hodge was just the same - he knew the “theory” of doors but could not get a grip on a door knob, but I remember him using those same very furry paws to flick a fish fillet out of the frying pan and onto the floor.

Our daughter adopted a cat while she was in school and then got a job in Japan, so Sierra moved in with us. Cats seem to have an unerring ability to sense tissue going into a bag for recycling:

We feed/water feral cats that showed up at our door 6 years ago after a neighbor who had fed them for 9 years stopped feeding them because her husband said if she stopped he would buy her a new car - she stopped, she got a new car. We have trapped a few and had them fixed - not easy to trap feral cats believe me. The most I counted were 19 - now about 8 - some are so tame and friendly I think they are adopted by strangers walking by - hope so. Don't know how to stop this - I buy cat food from Chewey 88lbs at a time. We also put fresh water out daily by the sidewalk for dogs that are walking by - have met some really nice people this way that are very appreciative - it gets Hot here in the summer.

We're currently living at my parents. They already had 2 indoor cats. We moved our three is. So far, it's working (for the most part). The age range is 2 to 22. The oldest(going on 22) is the hardest to deal with and she's been with me since she was born. She was born here, at the parents place. Go figure.

Cat free for more than a year now. May be looking for a middle aged cat by the end of this year. We'll see when the time comes.
