Yes, it is or was a church. Don't know if it is still used. Charlie Patton was mentioned on the guitar thread today. His grave is about 4 miles east of that point. About another 16 miles on east will take you to where the Southern crossed the Yellow Dog. That railroad was the Southern at that time.

Probably the last time a locomotive was on these tracks was when shooting the freight car scene in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", east of here, the tracks have been sometimes used to store unused coal cars since then. The trestle over the bayou in that tree line has been gone for decades. Today was the first time that I have been at this location although I have crossed the tracks to the east of here many times.

Nice pic! Looks like a break in the weather to get a clear view looking east. We have been getting a series of fronts coming off the CA coast dropping heavy amounts of fresh snow with high water content.

I ran up to high elevation today. We got 3+ feet of fresh snow on this ridge system. This is heavy wet snow which is good for water yield but high avalanche danger.
