Wood seller much delayed,
My fault mostly, Wood load came at 4PM today. Brad Strobel, takes into account what a loose cord CF dumped equals as compared a neatly stacked CF. Brad built a custom trailer just to carry a loose 2 cords. I have been skunked for so many years, that getting the volume and weight of wood
I paid for is quite novel.
I'll let you do the math of the lifting and stacking 2 cords.
For those that won't do the math. 2+-3 tons per cord.
Getting old is not for the weak of heart.

I bought firewood this year after 2 years of having few fires and I was not pleasently surprised. The price for a split and delivered cord has doubled. There aren't many sellers in the metro Vancouver area so I had to take what I could get at $500 /cord. Humbug!

This year it was $230.00 per green cord, up from $200.00.
A cord of green maple weighs about 4500 lb.
I buy 16" pieces and each green one will lose about two pounds of weight before it gets burned; about a quart of water.

In the time we have been here nearly all of our firewood has 'volunteered' by falling down. We have not bought any. The art is not to be under it when it falls of course.

In my experience this year, "seasoned" was far from it.

Seasoned wood round here means logs stacked for a year or more. Cut to length and split with a wood processor as needed. Cord wood going from 2 to 5 hundred. I paid $230 early bird special.
Same wood now selling for $260.
I am just getting over that for the first time in 16 years I got what I paid for.

"firewood purveyor" Round here is a seasonal thang. Most are quasi tree butchers/landscaper's.
My new woodman is a daytime farmer that got out of dairy ten years ago and went big time hay purveyor. Horsey people make it a very profitable venture. I stopped over at his farm Monday.
He had a forty footer loaded ten high for delivery to a stable an hour South of us. Claims it is way more profitable than milking cows.

I did that a month or so ago, the only heat we have.
A level full 16ft dump truck of loose split wood is three cords...
After it was stacked and put up for winter (which took me a week) I did not do anything except lie flat on my back and complain for the next week or maybe ten days.
40 odd years ago there was a day when I could split and put up that much wood between breakfast and dinner, and still hustle down to the pub for an evening of carousing.
