Driving, hiking and canoeing around the southern Appalachians, I have run across the remains of a number of old stills. The revenuers had already found all of them before me. One day after canoeing the Chattahoochee, a fellow offered us sips of some clear spirits in a mason jar, he said it was made in an old chicken house by an old fellow that lived somewhere nearby.
^ The most recent of those still had a bunch of split open plastic milk jugs littering the hillside.
