Default How antisemitism became an American crisis

Another manifestation of the Acton Dictum. And a rising problem in the U.S. From accurate & legitimate criticism on the left regarding the ways that Israel is becoming the oppressors they were founded to escape from... to hateful nativist jingoism on the right focusing on Jews as just another 'other'.

Israel has been the epitome of what all those people fled from for 40 years now. The desire to pull the walls in around their little safe space has defined them. I am not convinced that their culture was any different during the 18th and 19th centuries. Feeling that one must build protection in order to conserve ones culture is not just characteristic of the Jews, but it's been their way for a very long time.

In case you haven't noticed, it's also a feature of so-called evangelical "Christianity".
A society predicated on the assumption that everyone in it should want to get rich is not well situated to become either ethical or imaginative.

I hed a Jewish girlfriend for a while as a young man with a jazz band, (she owned and played a souzaphone), and her Rabbi father said thet the complete disinterest on religious afilliation in Australia was a bigger threat than oppression. A generation earlier there was Irish catholic/protestant conflict, now it is confined mostly to US based fringe RW cults.

" Accurate and legitimate criticism of Israel " is not a "rising problem ". Period.

There is certainly much to criticise. But their electorate seems just as divided as America's which makes progress in domestic diplomacy difficult.
