Tesla Model 2 Sub $30K Entry Level EV

I think we've all lost sight of the fact that Tesla (and, one assumes, other EV manufacturers) are not making money by selling cars. The profit comes from selling carbon-credits to other automakers. Our current government system of subsidy* establishes a system wherein each zero-emissions EV allows a full-emissions SUV to exist. (No one is saving the planet, yet)

Whether the cars are actually any good after year two or three is only relevant if it affects the ability to sell the next car and the next carbon-credit.

*I'm glad that our government subsidizes the development of EV technology, just as I am about the development of any other technology, but let's not bother with the sugar-coating.

I am ignorant of all that. Thx, I’ll read up on it. Seems to me if we were really attempting to lower the fossil fuel intensity of our transportation we’d be doing what folks in other countries are doing with expensive fuel which is smaller engines and slower acceleration.

Not 100% correct

There is a $6k version that does 90%. Also there is a month to month $199 version which might be worthwhile on a long roadtrip.

Original post says the car will be fully autonomous at 25k. The link I provided says it’s a 15k option on the other cars. Or is it just autonomous capable and will require the add on?

No the $199 month to month is for the 100% FULLY autonomous version.

The only thing thats different between the $6K & the $15K version is Traffic Light and Stop Sign controle and beta auto steer on city streets.

And 200.00 is damn close to what financing 15k for 6 years would be. So how are they doing it in a 25k car.
Why so much more for all the other vehicles??

I'm thinking using the $200 is a couple of times a year thing, not a yearly subscription.
To be honest the FREE included adaptive cruse controle / auto steering is pretty much all I need or want.
Keep in mind all Teslas are already a full self driving capable out of the box, it's just a software unlock that can be done over the air.
So they may just equip the sub $30K with some version of autonomous self driving.

Oh and just so you know this is what the $0 Autopilot is like

I know it’s just a software unlock. Guess that’s what bugs me about Tesla. Why charge so much for capability that is already there, and why only on the more expensive versions?
Of course right now it’s all just ad copy, we will see what they actually bring to market.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 HDA2 capability is plenty good for me. I have no desire for fully autonomous driving.

Also get this silliness there is a $2,000 in app purchase just to give you a .5 second 0-60 time that my car is already fully capable of right now.

I also like the new crop of some of the EV I kinda like what Hyundai & Kia are doing. That said my Tesla's $0 Autopilot is a whole lot of fun, oh and it is freaking wonderful in stop and go traffic.

That is what the HDA2 is like in the Hyundai/Kia. Great in traffic and for long trips too. Cindy has the EV6 now and it is fantastic.

Actually, Steven I happen to really like the rear 3/4 rear end it has some nice haunches, the rear end and the top down and aft end and rear taillights are nice. I do hate the beluga wale grill, so I fixed it

So I had a fogged taillight. Opened up the app requested service the other day uploaded photos. Tesla send a service van this morning 2 minutes later new taillight. Kinda happy with the service.

Regardless of the virtues/faults of Teslas... the more of Musk's antics I see, the less inclined I am to do business with him in any way shape or form.

If I had waited two years I might have chosen a different EV. Although, the Tesla Superior Supper Charging network is hard to beat, and my lease was up.
