    been 30 years, but we just tied a line to the loop at the top of my lads pfd

    Practical sailor reviewed a bunch of kids' harnesses. Their take is that, based on the harnesses available, children don't go to sea.

    They seemed to like the CrewSaver Venturer, which has been discontinued, but new old-stock seems to still be available.

    Also, a child's climbing harness might work. Won't have stainless hardware, though, and you'll to get a tether. Probably want a tether with a smooth rounded carabiner so it won't chafe the webbing loops on the harness.
