I can't get my partner interested. I love ruined stone houses, lots of sun. I have several L'Eroica bicycles, but I would be happy with a 11 speed rear cog commuter bike. Forget cars. Read some books.Sit in an outdoor cafe and watch women that walk a lot, walk by. Eat real food....Oh, and conservatism is cool again in Italy!

I worked with a chain smoking Englishman who owned a house on a Greek island very close to the Turkish coast. House was on an ancient temple platform close to the top of the island. Kept a Vespa and a donkey, as the village had mostly steps not streets. Spent his holidays there but he died of lung cancer before he got round to retiring there.

That wasn't my experience, as a matter of fact just the opposite, we kept apologizing for the crazy Mango Mussolini conservatism currently in our country.

My former in-laws had a number of rental houses they bought for $1.00 from the city of Milwaukee with the agreement they would be brought up to code (the houses not the in-laws). It worked for them, the houses were brought to minimum code and rented out as Section 8 housing so the rent checks didn't bounce. It was a lot of work, there is usually a reason for real estate looking like a bargain.

You might not have been in the cities that elected Meloni and the Brothers of Italy … who are literal descendants of Mussolini.

I loved your posts though, and I think you captured the real spirit of the place regardless of the current winds.

It looks like I’ll be in Milan and Rome in January on business, some with the government. I’m going to be really curious to see how things are going.
