Default Lawley sailing tender - paint question

    Hello,
I have a 12' Lawley sailing tender that I'm refurbishing. Traditionally, it was entirely varnished. I'm going to paint the exterior and keep the interior varnished. 2 questions - am I ok putting primer on top of the pre existing varnish on the exterior? If so any suggestions they type of primer and paint to use. This boat hasn't been in the water in a while so once painted it will need to swell up. Thank you.

If you give it a thorough sanding and two coats of varnish, thatíll serve as primer for your paint AND make it possible to refinish the boat in varnish at a later date if so desired.
