I really loved our '55 oldsmobile. I also liked my grandpa's '51 Kaiser.

My grandpa was a Buick fan. He owned a few in the 50's that I thought were pretty nifty. Loved the portholes.

My own cars? I really liked the Mercury Comet Caliente that my h.s. mob hotted up for drag racing.

And I loved the two that followed - that I raced in SCCA stock events: a Fiat and an Alfa. Since then, it's mostly been utilitarian family vehicles and pickup trucks.

Early Fords, mid fifties Chevys. I had a 55 when I met my wife to be , bought a 34 fordor, really wanted a 39 deluxe coupe( had one for a couple of years). Thought a 240 zed might be nice, got sick of driving my 46 jailbar and bought that rough E type en forum , found the older restoration MGC( which I still have). They always interested me as a youngster... Its a useful little trolley.
I never got that Firebird thank goodness.

My favorite that was actually around to be seen in person was the Jag E type. By far the least favorite that my family ever owned was an International Travelall. Ours didn't look nearly this good. Ours was a squashed frog green.

when i was in my single digits, the only teenager i had much to do with was john anderson, who worked as a hired hand on our dairy farm.

john had a '76 pontiac sunbird, so i figured that must be a cool car.

i didnt have much to go on, frankly.

I had a '65 Chevelle Malibu that my sister's father-in-law gave me in the early '70s because he was going to junk it. It had been painted white with a brush and house paint and had brush strokes. My Dad gave me some tires from his old '64 Chevy wagon which were better, but a bit too large. If you turned the wheel and ran over a bump the fender would cut a slice out of the tread. There was enough room under the hood that you could have stuck a suitcase on either side of the in-line six and it was so simple that even I could work on it. I left a sandwich sitting on the back seat once, right before heading off to Quetico for a weeklong canoe trip. It was pretty ripe when I returned, so the back seat was thrown out and replaced with a couple of boat cushions. I was teaching kayak classes at the time, so it usually had six slalom kayaks on edge up on the roof rack. I ran a big U-bolt through the roof so that I could cable them to the car. The automatic transmission's shift lever eventually broke off, so I replaced it with a screwdriver stuck in the hole. Once in a while it would pop into reverse while driving, which was pretty exciting. In 1978 I used rock and roll money and bought a new Chrysler Cordoba to replace it, which was a pretty sweet ride. I sold the Chevelle to a guy who had an even worse one. He arrived with 2 x 4s bolted to the sides of his to keep the doors closed and he had to climb in and out through the window.

I walked past a beautiful, racing green TR6 every morning on my way to school.

Changed schools and my new friend's dad had a Datsun 280.

Then I saw a movie where some guy was wailing a 911 across a frozen lake, maybe somewhere in northern New York state.
Then when I was about 15, it was the Pursuit Special(Last of the V8 Interceptors) from Road Warrior.

How much younger? Does early 30s count? I had a 1951 Ford F-1 pickup -- my first truck. It was black like the one in the picture, but not as shiny. It had a flat head 6 that was dirt simple. The transmission was a "heavy duty" 3 speed floor shifter, not on the column, with really low gearing. In fact, everything on that truck was simple and a no-brainer to repair. Vacuum windshield wipers that stopped working going up a steep hill.

The truck had "reliability issues." Among other problems, the horn only worked intermittently. One day my ex and I took the truck to be inspected, of course at a garage that had a reputation for passing any vehicle that drove in. I tested the horn en route and it seemed to be having a good day.

The inspector checked the tires, lights, windshield wipers, etc. and all was well. Then he asked me to blow the horn. Nothing happened. Finally my ex pushed the horn button while I opened the hood and beat on the horn with a jack handle. The horn beeped faintly, and we passed!

I inherited a 68 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Coupe with a 454 Rocket engine in 1978. That was fun for packing in my buddies and cruising with the eight track blasting.

At the other end of the spectrum, I also owned a 73 Super Beetle for a few years. I ski bummed in that car all over the Northeast. It was yellow, and I painted all the chrome black, added fog lights, roof racks.

On another thread, I mentioned my 93 Bronco. That was my favorite ride, I think.

My father had many cool cars. Gullwing 300, jag 120, 140 XKE, Maseratis to name a few.

first car I drove was the Alfa 1750 - first one off the line which my father raced.

I had many small sporty cars. I blew up and lost many. My favorite was the 2002. What a great young man's car.

    Favorite cars? air-cooled 911's (couldn't afford); 914 (that was fun - but my sisters). mid-60's vettes - couldn't afford.

That I had? '66 chevelle and '67 camaro. But likely had the most fun in my '75 datsun b210. great economy, drove it too fast, and when I got where I was going, I still had $$$ to spend.
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

I had the earlier 1600 version with Webers. I think your 1750 was injected. Mine was also red, they were only offered in the three colors of the Italian flag, red, white, and green.

My dad had a ‘59 Westphalia Camper and a ‘66 Triumph 2000 four door w red leather. My grandmothers early 60’s Lincoln Continental convertible was impressive. I really enjoyed my first car a ‘72 Datsun pickup. My poor teenage daughter had to take her driving test in a ‘86 Olds 88 I got for $500.

I had a milk chocolate brown ‘82 Alfa Spyder with the ugly big bumpers. That little car was heavy but the exhaust sounded nice.

I have no favorites, oh wait. 1981 Vanagon.

If you are referring to the ‘67 Alfa Duetto, I don’t think so.

I owned most of the cars I lusted over.

    Porsche 911 (had a 72 E)
    Porsche 914 (had a 73 2.0)
Austin Healey Sprite (had a 59)
Fiat 124 Spider (had a slew of them)
    Lancia Beta Montecarlo/Scorpion (had a 76)
Saab 900 Turbo (have an 87)

but there were two cars I always wanted but never will be able to get my grubby hands on:

    The Dino 206:

I bought an RX7 GSL in 1984... very hot car:

I know it sounds nuts, but my first car was a Pinto and I really enjoyed it. It taught at least 4 people to drive stick and I kept it until the driver's seat broke through the bottom of the car. I figured at that point it was time to replace it. I've had a string of Hondas and Subarus since then, but none have been as much fun as that dirt cheap Pinto.

I had one of these in my late 20's. Fun car, but, as it turned out, too much overlap with motorcycles. It handled excellently and had all sorts of Swedish weird engineering:

We always bought used cars. When I was 14 it was. 1957 Ford Country Squire station wagon. That thing was huge! If memory serves, the engine air cleaner said “Interceptor”, which I claimed meant it was for a police car.
