Franco had a great personality, he would hang out with me every day while I shaved and got ready for work in the bathroom. He would stand next to me and wrap his tail around my ankle while I stood at the washbasin.
He became totally blind due to macular degeneration but could get around fine, and even would go across our street or catch hummingbirds.
Due to his blindness he sometimes slept with his eyes open.
You are missed, Franco!

His name was Zig, he was not mine but he was my friend. He never fell in and he was smart, you could ask him where his owner was and he would take you to her. Sometimes I would think he was lost but sure enough there she would be where he took me.

Another photo of Sam. Sam and I hiked hundreds of miles together in the mountains of Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Sam always went ahead and was usually out of sight, but I could shout "Sam, show yourself" and he would wait for me to catch up. Sometimes he would get on a rock so I could spot him better. As soon as I saw him and said OK, he would take off again.
This location is in North Carolina close to the Georgia/North Carolina state line.
The first hike that I took him on was to the Standing Indian area in North Carolina on the Appalachian trail. He was a small puppy and got so tired that he just sat down and his legs were shaking. I had to carry him the rest of the way to the truck.

Here's my longtime buddy 'Bullwinkle'. A big ol' lunkhead who was sweet, funny, and friendly. Along with my darling m'in law. Both sadly passed away now.
