Cat sh!t?

This is the first time I've lived with both cats and dogs, and both the little poodle and the new golden puppy just love to scarf up cat doody from the back yard. Is this common? Is there something we should do to get them to leave it alone? Other than hover over the cats while they do their do.

The poodle seems OCD about food, too. She spends most of her time when she's not lying down, hoovering all around the house, snuffling for anything edible she might find, which is really nothing, because the house is clean, and the robo vac gets there first. She's always under foot in the kitchen. She gets fed the right amount for her weight and on a regular schedule, and now, right after she's just eaten her afternoon meal, she's out in the yard snarfing a cat turd. WTF?

Northwest dog owners have always called that "Kitty Roca."

If anyone sees the performance my husky puts on, and how she's all over me for 45 minutes after I come back from a week's vacation - you KNOW it's not a reaction based on the food that I provide. And huskies aren't attuned to humans as much as many other dog breeds.

My 'rescue' Chihuahua / Cairn Terrier came into the family severely underweight, and taught her 'older brother' Bichon the joys of slugs and aged earthworms - she is up to weight now, but our neighbors still find humor in watching / listening to her snuffle over the lawn, sounding more like a wild hog than a small dog. . . .

Actually, humans and dogs have a coevolved relationship unique in the world. Dogs can sense and respond to human emotions in a way unmatched by any other animal, except man.

Not all dogs are idiots. There are more than a few breeds bred so far out on the bell curve for specific looks that brains have been bred out of ‘em. The more primitive and working breeds are very much thinking folk. But yes, they enjoy a sheep turd now and then.
