Back in the 80s, when I was helping my father build their retirement home in Plainfield, Vermont, I drove up one time on the first day of deer hunting season. There were nothing but pickups lining the rural roads and armed guys wandering around with this crazed look in their eyes, and kids who looked about 12 walking around with Winchester .30-.30s looking determined. A very scary scene, First Day.
Some poor jogger in an electric blue jogging suit got shot the second day. Luckily he survived. " I thought he was a deer".
There was an anecdote back then about a farmer who every year would drag a log into the woods and nail set of antlers to it. At the end of deer season he'd drag it back, burn the log, and sell off the lead from all the bullets in it. Pretty funny.
