I read today that Neighbours is returning to TV screens. I'm reliably informed that it's not an act of revenge for Coronation St or Midsomer Murders but, rather, an attempt to drag revenue from an, apparently, addicted audience. I'm told there are Australians who watch it but I'm pretty sure they're all in Melbourne.

Never seen it. But I'm told that it kept the industry and a lot of actors in crisps and beer for a very long time.

Okay, I checked, it is! Yikes!

A lot of us Brits lurrrve us sone soaps.
Medical soaps, community soaps, even low budget soaps where the walls of the set wobbled.

The upside was spoof comedy like Acorn Antiques written by National Treasure Victoria Wood, with a top flight cast..

I've only seen neighbours a couple of times when visiting someone else's home.. I think Bouncer the dog was the best actor..

Think I read that the only reason it lasted so long, was that it was popular in UK (cringe..)
The bit I liked was the theme song, about everbody being 'good friends' When it was all about personal conflicts at any opportunity. ( My other half did watch it occasionally, so I caught the odd bit before fleeing..)

I have managed to avoid all the brit soaps pretty much. Used to watch some soaps with my grandmother but they were not brit although they left something to be desired in the quality department.

Have seen em back in the 80's or so . Its worth remembering that they're a feeder and some very good actors have started there, gone on to greater things.
Guy Pierce for example , or Margot Robbie. Or our local series in NZ, Shortland street. Martin Csokas played a real goober on that series in the 90's.. possibly one of the best bad guy actors you'll see.
