Why does the right hate Nancy Pelosi?
Why does the right hate Nancy Pelosi?

She is way too effective a Democratic Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

more than a few progressives despise her, too. the "corporatist".
which basically means, she makes deals in order to build a voting coalition. of course, in order to be a deal maker, she needs to both hold on to office, and build personal power, through careful and cunning relationship building. which building simply requires quid pro quo. one does not build political relationships by lecturing on ideology.
that demon spawn of hell, compromising our ideals, just to get results!
although i have noticed that the criticisms from progs have been a bit muted around the midterm elections. almost as if there is some realization that the meaningful battle is not, and should not be, between progressives and more conservative, or pragmatic, democrats. that our coalition has the ability, just barely, to hold off the reactionary right that seeks to destroy a century's work.
she represents everything that's wrong with american politics
she raises obscene amounts of money, mostly from corporate interests groups, and wields that money around to form her 'coalitions'
let me ask you this lee, when have the interests of corporate america, banking, insurance, big pharma and walls street ever coincided with what's best for you, your family, or your community?
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
I agree with Paul - money is the source of her power.
She is also very much a centrist, much like Bill Clinton, which makes it difficult to attack her politics so they attack her. I doubt we will ever get something like universal health care so long as she has power.

Sounds a lot like Mitch McConnell as well. Coincidence? I doubt it.Originally Posted by L.W. Baxter

modern societies are a web that nobody builds alone, for the benefit of one. the web we build in collaboration supports all kinds of uneconomic behaviors, comforts, material possessions.
the structure of american society is far from perfect but the creative power is undeniable. even relative to our democratic socialist cousins in europe. i don't demonize business simply for being in business. discerning is required.
let me ask you this, paul. when was the last time you synthesized a vaccine? built a residential tower? supplied a grocery store? supplied power to a city? and so on.
She's a woman they can't divorce or mistreat.

lol.
scoreboard!
^admittedly, i've been slacking a bit since then

There are plenty of reasons to disagree with her, right or left, but the demonization of her on the right is so far out of proportion to anything she's done that it's just bizarre. Just like Hillary Clinton, eh? Someone else who's center-left, powerful, ambitious, somewhat cunning, and has two X chromosomes? Gee, what a coincidence!
A hypothesis: The core of the US right wing is evangelical Christians (For convenience, I'll lump the most conservative Catholics in with them; not quite accurate, but close enough.) There are a LOT of them, partially in the ex-Confederacy and rural areas (sound familiar?) Among the reactionary social ideas they believe in is the deep-down idea that men should be in charge of things, and that a powerful woman, with power in her own right and her own ideas, is somehow illegitimate, unnatural, against God's order, actually evil. They didn't like Obama or Bill Clinton, Biden they disagree with, but the actual hate and venom gets directed toward women. Why do you think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a not-terribly-influential Representative from New York City, gets so much crap? Being female tends to turn their disagreement into loathing.

Hatred is a tactic. You can tell this because when Sanders lost the attention of the press they stopped attacking him. They are afraid of AOC, so they attack her. If Warren starts getting attention, they attack her.
It's a tactic. I believe that the GOP leadership could not care less about what they say and have no core beliefs about hating the opposition. Their game is to instill hatred in their followers and they are very good at it.

She's an honorable person who is good at politics.
Maybe many are still not accepting of a powerful woman who knows how to do the job?
"Banning books in spite of the 1st amendment, but refusing to regulate guns in spite of "well regulated militia' being in the 2nd amendment makes no sense. Can't think of anyone ever shot by a book
Those curious about why the right hates her might recognize that the feeling is almost certainly mutual and reflect on the basis of those feelings.
Those who extoll her virtues as the foundation of the right's hatred might note the similarity to the common "the leftists hate trump because he loves this country so much" nonsense.
Let's not get lost in nuance. Pelosi is a figurehead of the opposition. For many, that simple fact is enough to fuel hatred.
"Visionary" is he who in every egg sees a carbonara.
She is a warmongering harpy who is up to her ears in insider trading, aka graft and corruption.
Not that the rest are not as well but this naive outlook on her behavior ... just because she is female, she's got to be okay ? That's far from the truth.
Plus she's a carpetbagger.
CW has a good point. It’s flipside to fear. Sure some sexism can be dipped into but it’s the tickling of visceral emotions.
Two core reasons. One you might get them to admit, and one they never will. At least not overtly.
1. She is part of the 'wrong' tribe. And the far right is quite tribal.
2. She is a she. It frosts their grits to have to deal with a competent, powerful female.

The question, I think, is why they hate her with such intensity, more than other comparable (male) leaders of the other tribe. Schumer or Biden or Obama don't provoke such vehement reactions. The real hysteria tends to be focused on females.

some of that, keith, might be our heightened sensitivity as traditional males. perception, in other words.
the men you mention have received plenty of hate. i have a neighbor with a f*** biden flag, eh.
but we tend, by our heritage, to be more defensive of our female allies.
i would add that, as a group, male liberals are not more chivalrous than conservative males. plenty of ugliness directed at right wing females, using whatever tool is available, which is frequently a sexist pejorative.
Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene do indeed tend to get a lot of flak. The fact that neither of them are very bright and both subscribe to the craziest of politics has a lot to do with it. But they're fringe, even within their own party.
Interestingly, the US right wing has few women comparable to Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi. No Angela Merkel or Margaret Thatcher, certainly. Nikki Haley is the only current one I can think of right off; she's quite competent, and is not singled out for more than her share.

Well - in his defense - that's because they finally came around!

There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....
I agree almost completely. I'd describe Pelosi as center-right, though. And "corporatist," which I am still enough of an idealist to see as a bad thing, rather than something to be admired--no matter how many points it scores for the side you might be rooting for (if only because it's the least bad side in the game).
Tom
I have no recollection of this.
Either you've been 'indulging' a bit
-or maybe I'm outta the loop - or maybe just forgetting.
Is that a bad sign?
