Much more painterly than your previous Rob, lovely. Really great light on the boats and I can feel the depth of the clear water.. very well seen.![]()
definitely enjoy!
Thanks.
Wow! Lovely! Painted with authority.
There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.
That's a shi .... er, a boatload of work, Rob. Beautiful too.

Very nice. Where is it?
Fantastic!
The subject is a harbor in Broadstairs UK, provided as a prompt for a challenge called #boatober2022 issued by an online artist friend.
I could not keep up with the one-a-day pace, so I’m completing them more slowly, now.
It has been great fun to be provided with prompts, because the images I’ve been working from are excellent, so I only need to capture some of the essence to end up with a good looking piece. I have creatively cropped some of the subject photos, as well as adding and/or subtracting things. It’s been a real test, and great opportunity to improve my skills; which needed honing.
Of course, I wouldn’t have re-started this artistic journey without the encouragement of so many of you here; including those on this very thread who have materially encouraged me.
Thank you all for the kind words.
Good job,Rob.
This one is really good Rob, thanks!
There is a whole thread with 22 arts up in Misc., in case anyone wants to see more boat art. I have a few more I’ll add to it when they’re done.![]()
Hello Rob,
If you draw a line through the bows of the boats, and another along the line of the beach/water.... they meet just off the right side of your painting.
Made me wonder.
Maybe something interesting going on there? Waiting for another painting?

gawd, that's good..

linky for posterity, thanks again.
I really like the painterlyness of that one Rob. You are clearly working from photographs, recreating them as paintings as many painters have done, but your twist is it's digital, so there are essentially three layers to the process.
Did you ever paint in the same style as you are creating here? If not I think you would do well at it, it's 90% seeing, 90% interpretation and 90% hand eye skill.
Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy for a man of your talents.
Was wondering where you were Rob, busy.
The problem with analog painting is the time and expense involved. Whew! Until this #boatober challenge, I had never used the paintbrush tool on my goofy app, mostly because I prefer colored pencils IRL, and also because the colored pencil tool is so nice to use; it’s almost like real pencils.
In the past, I tried to be a serious artist, and I have worked in many media. I really enjoy heavy bodied acrylics and oils, but the expense is a bit much for a hobby for a guy like me. I’ve been able to pursue art of late because I’ve resigned myself to it being a hobby I pursue to keep me sane, rather than any way to make money. It has given me permission to work at being “better”.
Of course, if someone wanted to pay me a month’s wage to paint something similar on a canvas, I’d be thrilled. Beyond thrilled. Until then, it’s much easier to store these digital files, and much quicker to “paint” these paintings; I don’t have to wait for anything to dry!
Of course, I still do the Doodles, because they’re fun as, but I don’t really post them here, anymore. Meh. Here’s a recent one, though…

And another. I’ve taken to drawing on boxes.

And, again, thank you all for the kind words. These have been fun to do, and I’m thrilled to have been provided lovely photos to work from by internet art friends.
I’m more than pleased to share them with you all, and I hope they brighten your collective days.![]()
Even before I read the info, I recognized that as Britain. You got the touch!

I added another to the thread up in Misc.
I go up there just to see your art and usually find other things of interest too.
That SKY!
Nice.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.
I put on more the art on the thread. If you want to see it.
