Another movie: it’s all in the writing, directing, and editing.

Couple of days ago I ranted about “Top Gun” and how blah it was.
Last night I had the opposite reaction to a movie.
I’d never seen “The Bourne Identity”. We were sick of poli-news and found it on Prime. Popped the corn.
I was immediately enthralled from the first scene, a fishing boat 60 miles off the coast of Marseille in a thunderstorm. A crewman spots a body, with a rescue flasher, floating in the waves.
I was hooked. First off, the writer never underestimates the intelligence of the viewer. Nothing is explained. You have to pay attention and the details unfold.
If you’ve never seen it, I won’t give anything away. But I will say it’s a rollicking good yarn.

But before I go, I have to tell all that there’s a chase, through Paris, in a first gen Mini.

Have you ever written anything? Like a book, a story, a film, etc? For the last two and a half years I have been writing fiction. Mostly fantasy type stuff. None of it any good and nothing anyone here would like to read, but I enjoy it. A friend convinced me to give it a try and it gives me something to do, to look forward to every day.

Anyway, since I have been writing I find that I look at every television program and film very differently than I did before. Essentially, it's kind of like 'yeah, I would have done that a bit differently', or 'o.k., I like how they did that'. I have a niece who is a prize-winning playwright who teaches at a private college in Tennessee, and she has asked me to look over her stuff from time to time, and to be honest, it was all way over my head. Now I would probably look at it very differently. Give it a try sometime. I think you will see what I mean by all this.

Indeed, the Jason Bourne films are my all-time favorites. Matt Damon, along with the other cast members, do an outstanding job!

Joe, one of my sons-in-law is in advertising, and he has produced some really big stuff that you've seen if you ever watch commercial television (his latest is the thing with Jeff Bridges talking about immunizations). Anyway, I get what you mean. He HAS to see behind the curtain on every single thing, wants to know how everything works and how everything is done. He is a fascinating guy, but not being able to just kick back and enjoy? I'd rather just leave the curtain where it is, though as I said, I sometimes find myself critiquing a scene and thinking, probably incorrectly, that I could have done it better.
