Thanks for all the kind words. I’m happy you lot are enjoying them. It’s been very fun, and I look forward to finishing the month off.
I think I’m getting a hang of this.

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Don't know how I missed these - need to get out of the bilge more often. Beautiful work Rob!

    Thanks for posting these Rob.

The part I'm most impressed with is how well you capture the hull shapes. It only takes something to be marginally out and the whole thing looks odd.

The tractor painting is incredibly detailed, my favourite (so far) is the yellow-decked boat.

I have no idea how you manage to produce one of these a day - it would have taken me weeks just to get the outlines penciled on the paper...!

I have a whole thread of my goofy art in the Bilge, but I stopped posting there, for the most part. Most of the art I do is scribbled nonsense abstract stuff, but I’ve been enjoying this stint with realism.

I never knew I liked drawing boats!

I’ve been “working hard” at learning to quickly capture likenesses, lately. And to quickly figure out proportion and composition, and it’s helped a lot to become quicker.

Like anything, art is just about learning some tools and then practicing with them until you become skilled. Being my own work, I can only see all the areas I’d like to improve.

The thing that makes it easiest to go quickly is using digital art. I don’t have to wait for anything to dry before I move on to the next thing, and I can erase stuff to my heart’s content with the “back” button.

The downside to working digitally is everyone assuming the work is done by the app, or that I use a bunch of tools or helpers to make the art. No tricks to these. I sketch them out by hand, then color them by hand, just like a regular piece of art; except I have any color I want, and as much of it as I need.

And the hits keep coming! I’m really starting to like the paintbrushes more than the colored pencils. Which, the best part of doing art digitally is I don’t have to store it.
I already have enough crap piled up around here I can’t get rid of.

Excellent, Rob! You have really captured the huskiness of the trawler, and at the same time its sense of motion.

Wow, I really enjoyed scrolling through all of these.

Vivier's website says "Boats to make the sea more beautiful"--I love that phrase. This thread could be "paintings to make the forum more beautiful"!

As everyone else has said, these are lovely. So many of them are in the UK. That makes me a little homesick.

Here are the two letter codes for the fishing boat ports. "BA" for instance is Ballantrae.

Yeah, most of them are from the UK. The guy responsible for posting all the prompts is called Doug Jackson, and he’s an artist living in UK. One of my invisible friends.

And, thank you, everyone, for the kind words and support. I’m well pleased you’re enjoying them. More to come. Maybe I’ll have to keep posting boats on my own after #Boatober2022 officially ends?

How about this for salty? A wooden crab boat, even. Painting lapstrake boats is kinda fun.
