can you briefly describe your process of computer-aided art production?

Bruce, I simply draw on a tablet like I would a pad of paper. The only computer aids I use are the layers available in a digitally program; that is, I can separate the drawing/painting into layers, and keep them separate.

I draw out the sketch in a bright pink “ink”, and then draw or paint on a layer BELOW the sketch, so the sketch remains visible, but is a separate element. I also use the color wheel to select any color I may want or need, including custom “mixes”.

Otherwise, I simply use the stylus as I would a colored pencil or paintbrush, and everything is done by hand, just like a normal piece of art.

Which, all of the other digital artists I know from the internet make fun of the rudimentary program I use, because it doesn’t even have any special tools, per se. I was very resistant to the digital format for a while until I found this simple program, and I use the free version which is stripped down and had very few features; keeps it simple enough I can operate it.

The best part of the digital format is the ease of storage and the available colors and materials; I can keep the pencils sharp and the paint wells full!

Here is the sketch for Day 24. The roughing in and layout lines are on a layer I’ve since erased. Which, the best part of digital art is the “back” button. Instant erasing of errant marks.

Thanks for the elbow on the other thread, Rob!

This is great. I scanned through your last few weeks of posted drawings. Now, I will go back again and savor them.

Probably. The lady who took the photo is from Cornwall, so it’s possible. I don’t really know anything more than that the prompt was Day 24 of boatober as provided by my online art friends.

I joke with my friend Doug, who devised the boatober “challenge”, that I’m too reticent to let go. I plan to eke this out for the rest of the year.

Which makes me feel, better about slowing WAY down in the output. Hahaha.

I’m well pleased you all are enjoying them, because I sure am. It’s only in the last few years that I even realized I could draw and paint nautical subjects. The first thing I’m doing after boatober is another hyper-realism colored pencil piece with lots of water.

True confession. I’ve slowed my output as much from the revelation (to me) of the new art AI as much as anything. It seems more pointless than ever to do this kind of art when there are apps that can do it better and faster, now.

And, it seems counterintuitive to publish more art for the AI to sample.

Anyway. I’m plowing through the months worth of prompts. Currently working on some boats on the hard in a yard. Back soon. Busy. Back soon.

Images solely created by AI are not art. Art requires human input.

Yeah. That and $5 will get you a coffee.

I’m just venting. In the long run, it don’t matter. I never dreamed art would ever be a paying endeavor. Well, not as a mature adult, anyway.

Just irksome to have my work scanned (and everyone else who publishes art) and borrowed for the algorithm of the AI, and to see people choosing to use the apps rather than engaging actual people. I guess as much as anything, I don’t want to provide more input for the AI. Let the AI spend decades failing rather than swiping stuff to average out…

Small worries, in the long run. I will keep producing the goofy Doodles, regardless. I’d love to see a computer draw dumber art than me! Hahahaha.

Sweet! For the record, I’m more than pleased to share art with the forum. I’ve garnered so much support and encouragement from the folks here, I can’t believe it.

I have several more days of boatober left, so I can post more boats here. Stay tuned. Day 26 is sketched out and ready to color!

There's a lot of room there on the L for a doodle.

Thanks for the kind words. I think I’m finally getting the hang of skies. It’s been a wonderful skill builder trying to do all these. There are a few doozies coming up.

    Stay tuned…

Beautiful work, I'd pay more for these than some of that so called "art" that you see appraised for big $$$ on Antique Road Show.
