There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.
Most enjoyable. Keep 'em coming, please.

They look great! I'm impressed.

I’ve been “working hard” at learning to quickly capture likenesses, lately. And to quickly figure out proportion and composition, and it’s helped a lot to become quicker.
Like anything, art is just about learning some tools and then practicing with them until you become skilled. Being my own work, I can only see all the areas I’d like to improve.
The thing that makes it easiest to go quickly is using digital art. I don’t have to wait for anything to dry before I move on to the next thing, and I can erase stuff to my heart’s content with the “back” button.
The downside to working digitally is everyone assuming the work is done by the app, or that I use a bunch of tools or helpers to make the art. No tricks to these. I sketch them out by hand, then color them by hand, just like a regular piece of art; except I have any color I want, and as much of it as I need.![]()

Day 24 is done, Man. Whoo-hoo!

HMS Endeavour. The last day of boatober2022. I had a great time, many I hope you all enjoyed them.
Maybe we’ll do it all again next year?
Nice work.
For the avoidance of confusion, that replica at Whirtby isThere is now also a full size static steel copy at Whitby. Our authentic replica of HMS Endeavour - which was sailed by Captain James Cook during his scientific expedition of 1768 - has been traditionally built by Whitby craftsmen and stands in the water some 40% of the ships original size.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Oops! I didn’t explain that #boatober2022 is a drawing “challenge” for the month of October issued by an internet friend of mine. The idea is to draw (or paint, or sculpt, I suppose?) a boat (or boats) every day from a photograph prompt he provides. The plan is to finish one a day for the duration, if my hand holds up.
Today’s challenge is a doozy!

And, Day 14…
I keep searching for that damn 'like' button :-)
When the last tree is cut
When the last river is dry
When the last fish is caught
Only then will Man realize that he cannot eat money.
Probably. The lady who took the photo is from Cornwall, so it’s possible. I don’t really know anything more than that the prompt was Day 24 of boatober as provided by my online art friends.
It’s been a pleasure sharing these with you all. Thanks for the kind words, everyone. See you in October.![]()
Dude!
Shirley you will visit before frikkin' October?
If only for a doodle...
It is interesting comparing Endeavor's tidy cat 21st century backdrop to what might have been 2-1/2 centuries ago
The planet is crowded, Ramshackle is dead, and I miss it.
It has always been my challenge to create a thing that looks 100 years old as soon as it is finished but not in a faux way, in an authentic way.
Thanks for posting these, I am enjoying them!
I particularly like "Day four"

Some technical difficulties with the tablet delayed day 5 for a while, but I hustled through, and it’s done. Well… done enough. On to Day 6!

And the hits keep coming! I’m really starting to like the paintbrushes more than the colored pencils. Which, the best part of doing art digitally is I don’t have to store it.
I already have enough crap piled up around here I can’t get rid of.![]()

Very nice Rob...
Great work. Thanks for sharing.

Day 16, but who’s counting?![]()
I joke with my friend Doug, who devised the boatober “challenge”, that I’m too reticent to let go. I plan to eke this out for the rest of the year.
Which makes me feel, better about slowing WAY down in the output. Hahaha.
I’m well pleased you all are enjoying them, because I sure am. It’s only in the last few years that I even realized I could draw and paint nautical subjects. The first thing I’m doing after boatober is another hyper-realism colored pencil piece with lots of water.![]()
Love em all! Doug
Wonderful stuff!
You maybe accept commissions?

Day 17. I’ll keep posting until the month’s worth of prompts are done.
I am reticent to speak about any business here, in deference to the rules. I simply wish to share these with everyone, because… boats!
I would absolutely love to have a reason to draw boats, other than just for fun, though. Ahem.![]()
