Default From Our Son's and Daughters Playlists

Jay In Oz requested some favourite music so yes, true to character I'll get a round tuit. In the mean time as some observers from afar might surmise we could be labeled as a crusty old bunch. Of course as we all know nothing could be further from the truth. We are a switched on diverse bunch of characters with the dexterity and flexibility of a show girl contortionist!
Anyway on offer in this thred are a song or two a day from my kids playlist. Three of the blighters are regular DJ's at friends parties, Melbourne pubs and music venues etc so I have requested they send me a song or two for this thread. That should bring us up to speed! A few no doubt will be from the vaults of the 70's but Im looking forward to what they have to offer us. Anyone who likes can do the same and put forward examples strictly from your offspring's playlist, grandkids included for the relevant demographic, for our listening pleasure. For those who don't have kids, any young'n you know will do.

To ease us all into what at times may be unfamiliar territory here is my youngest son Casey's contribution as a thread starter.....hopefully not a thread killer!!

Good morning America and the North Hemi, and Good evening fellow Ozzies and NZ ers. I'm thinking I'll post these at our nighttime so you lot up there get it in the morning.... so here's today's contribution from Dylan who is number 5 child...yes, Abbey and I had six children. Dylan has done a lot of DJ gigs and when in Vancouver played at the opening party for a music festival there. I will find out which one. I can listen to his playlists all day.
Dylan's response when I asked him to send a song a day:

" This gets me super exited to get the opportunity to share my music with the wooden boat community. Stoked, thanks for the opportunity!"

Dylan's first offer is real smooth with guitars sublime awash in reverb: Santino Surfers

Dylan sent a second tune across the digital divide lighting up the screen on my iPhone 10 minutes ago. Here it is. ( I'm beginning to wonder what kind of subliminal message they might be trying to send me )

Dylan's tune for the thread today. With this track he usually plays in context of the one before and what follows when he's DJ at a club.

Next from Dylan's playlist is a trippy tune. I have a hunch Brown Sugar is a Cyborg! Stylistically an amalgam of new and old. I love the choice of acoustic double bass, a pleasent change from the usual keyboard bass. I have a preference for instruments that move air rather than electrons. No problem with electronic music but with instruments that move air in the arrangement, I am a happy listener. The flute with big reverb, and the percussion break as the outro is a great touch...... Enjoy!

Today's track from Dylan takes it to another level. Where's the 1? Scattered and offbeat drums for the intro then it all comes together when the keys and then the singer guitarist, Gerome comes in. I just love this one from Dylan so I will be checking out further. This is one of those recordings that speaks loudly that great music is still being made.

Next from Dylan is from UK jazz guitarist Osker Jerome. I love it. This young lad's musical offerings are an intro to some good new music for me.

Boy George! This one is funny, because this Mary Gauthier hit inspired me to ask her if my minister sweetie could use the song for her services (her congregation is those in recovery). She was flattered, and we've maintained a bit of correspondence.

Then I find the very song, covered by Boy George, being played by the kids.

^ serendipity. Good on her for going the extra mile. Often such requests are simply ignored. Great song too and Boy George does a great version. He is definitely an artist of substance.

    New one from Dylan's playlist.

More from Dylan's playlist......Felt Ive never heard of them so looked them up: Felt were an English jangle pop band, formed in 1979 in Water Orton, England, and led by the mononymousLawrence.[4] They were active for ten years through the 1980s, releasing ten singles and ten albums. The band's name was inspired by Tom Verlaine's emphasis of the word "felt" in the Television song "Venus".[5]

Well I can feel my time is running out, the thread is up for the next BROM. In the Nick of time my daughters man Chris Matho Mathewson has collected a bunch of tunes on Spotify, inspired by me he reckons…. unsolicited! He’s in the good books now isn’t he Lets see how well he knows me…. y’all can be the judge! So far he’s doing all right.
here’s a link to the playlist:

Captain's stash #94 RL Burnside - Someday baby, I wonder just what RL really thought about Fat Possum's remixes/sampling of his material. I imagine that he was OK with them as long as the checks came in. I need to ask Duwayne or Garry about that someday.

Matho works for Balter Beer Brewing, the company started by Mick Fanning the surfer. Chris and my beutiful daughter Bethany are expecting thier first child in late January and when discussing how I wanted to be referred to as the grand father they along with the others of the family decided on calling me Captain as thats how they have come to refer to me. Well I just got this pic he sent on the phone with the comment:

" Inspierd by you Cap "

I was going to write back ; you should have named it Captain Fantastic! ( refering to the father in the film of the same name )
[if you haven't seen the film watch the trailer to get my drift ]

By the way they are expecting a girl....

Inspired by Chris Matho’s playlist and that my time as BROM is drawing to a close, I have asked Dylan for a playlist to which he willingly obliged. It is my hope that this introduces us all to some new music. 43 hours of music for your listening pleasure…….. should keep us all going for a while!
