It Must Be Fall

I actually wore long pants today. Yesterday was shorts but tshirt & flannel. Today was too damn cold & windy for shorts. Feels really strange to have cloth on my calves.

Woodstove going too, so there's that as well.

I sure remember the sinking feeling when school was about to start and fall is still my least favorite season because of that. Everything dying & stick season (aka November) on its way doesn't help.

Yeah, yeah - the leaves are pretty an all that. Thing is the colors are there because the chlorophyll has left & their deaths mean we have to deal with leaf-peepers.

I can’t speak for Garret, but here in my corner of Michigan the leaf-peepers are more mellow. The skiers tend to be more type A, and lean on the horn while driving and complain about everything in our restaurants…

Got the wood stove (with back boiler) lit today, so a relaxing hot bath tomorrow morning.
Our electricity costs have doubled, so I no longer have the immersion heater providing hot water. No gas on the island, and oil too is expensive, so no central heating.
It has been a very quick electric heated shower in the mornings. plus a kettle for hot water for washing pots.

I'd say leaf peepers. Yes, the skiers can be demanding & rude - especially at the big areas down south like Killington - but at the smaller areas, most have been coming for years, so are a part of the community. Leaf peepers drive 20 in a 50MPH zone & can be oblivious to 20 cars behind them. On the back roads they wander from side to side of the road & get PO'd at farm equipment going 10MPH - not knowing farm equipment 1) has the right of way & 2) provides the rural atmosphere & the food for their latest dinner.

Skiers also spend a lot more here.
