    Filling the bilge

    Hi!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful posts.

I am rebuilding a 1953 42’ Ed Monk Cabin cruiser.
I I’m trying to figure out what to put in the bilge that is less smelly and messy than tar if possible.

I saw your comment suggesting “you must putty with linseed oil and red lead powder below the waterline”.

could you help me understand better how to do this? For instance, tar is poured as a liquid and finds its way into all the voids. Would a putty do this? What would the mix be? Have you see this done often?

Thanks SO MUCH for any help you can offer!

    Best
    Matt

I received this today via PM.
Im not certain if this person/forum member is bona fide. My instincts seem to be telling me it's not.
    Happy to be proven otherwise.

There is a forumite working on an Ed Monk boat Bernie, down in repair or misc.. Maybe he posted on the wrong thread? He's fairly new, a year or two maybe. I cannot pick him up with a search.

What would be the point of trolling someone with posts about tar?

I have a hard time with PM's here.
first, I barely know how to use it
then, answering a question ,typing it all out and going back n forth...for one time use...ugh.
Matt might be better served keeping it all in the open. I think he's mixed up and confuse a little anyway...tar/putty connection ?

As have I, at least the few times I've made use of it.

Certainly doesn't behave the same as PM feature on other forums I've been subscribed to running same (though not same version) software.

It seems he may have the inside and outside of the boat confused...

yes, I saw the join date and the number of posts (in this case zero). given that with the utterly confused nature of the PM, and the fact that I was PM'd in the first instance raised my suspicion.
after all, if someone has taken on a 1953 42' cruiser, I doubt sending a PM would be the starting point to effect repairs.

if the poster is legit, I offer my apologies here and now.
I might also suggest posting in the Forum per se and asking a broad audience for advice etc as this is what it is intended for.

if the poster is not legit, then Scot can deal with the issue (I have reported same).

furthermore, the PM function is just that...private messaging. the PM I received is not in this category.

Many people lurk here and are too shy to post. This might be one of 'em.

    Hello lurkers.

Upon reflection, perhaps some are too smart to post.
