Default Fastener Size for 1969 Woody 36ft Grand Banks

Survey in a couple of weeks, and the fasteners need to be pulled. Always a possibility one or more will break.

Nothing easy about identifying fastener size on line or via suppliers.

    Help appreciated!

Where are you hauling out? Most yards will have a selection of fasteners on hand or available nearby. That was the case when we had fasteners inspected in Bellingham. Port Townsend certainly will as well, and also at most places in Seattle. Is the surveyor asking you to provide replacements?

    This might help:
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

How thick is the planking and how big are the frames? I would assume screws will be counter sunk 3/8" or so into the planks on that size boat. So go with a screw length of planking minus 3/8" + frame depth minus 1/2". So say your planking is 1" and your frame depth is 2". I would then use 2" or 2-1/4" screws. As far as size goes the most likely size for original fasteners is #12, but I would have #14 on hand too and maybe even some #16 in case you need to go up a size.
