Antique Boat Show, Bay Head NJ

I rode my bike over to an annual Antique Boat Show in a nearby town, Bay Head, NJ. This is an annual event at a local boat works, usually attracts less than 50 boats, but sometimes interesting old boats show up.

So, we had an unusual 1930's cycle boat

A boat from 1896. Was originally used as a Steamship tender in Philadelphia harbor, used silently to ferry passengers. Was always powered by an electric motor with lead acid batteries. More recently, it was converted to Lithium batteries, shaving almost 600 lbs in weight. But the Li batteries came with another set of problems, they caught fire. the boat was severely damaged in the fire and had to be restored. now it has the safer Li Phosphate batteries.

Is that cycle boat a shaft driven propeller? It looks wild. I bet dude above deck would like to see that.

Yes it was a shaft drive to a typical prop. You can't see the prop just between the two floats.

Asbury Park amusement area used to have nice pedal boats. Actually worked well. Now everyone's got the plastic squares, although I saw some cycle style in Baltimore Harbor.

sorry I missed it, but I think my GP14, built in 1964 may be too young for this show.

Charmers. I bet the loss of weight was a factor in the performance of that boat, too. Glad they could afford to put it back to rights after the fire.
