There are probably brokers or surveyors who specialize in them. To get a general idea I search classifieds for prices, and Ebay for sold prices. There may be an owner's association, club or Facebook page. There will always be some very high listings that are hoping or dreaming. Others will sell quickly because they're a bargain.

    Define value?
Valuable to you cuz you always wanted one and it makes your go pitty pat?
Value in dollars is what somebody, anybody, is willing to pay for it.
Relative value can be approximated by comparing to similar boats on the market.

As an owner, it will be a well-maintained, garage-stored, single-owner classic.

As a buyer, it is nice, but its an old wooden boat with an old engine thats harder to service and get parts for. And, remember, you may have to sell it someday.

    Get me?

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

As some have indicated, the first question is why do you need a valuation? If it’s to sell then you can just look at similar boats for sale or that have sold to get a general range, just like anything else. Look on Facebook marketplace, Thompson owners groups on Facebook, Craigslist, etc. You can also look at similar boats from Cruisers, Lyman and other manufacturers in that period as they tend to have similar values. Ultimately though, the market will tell you what it’s worth.

If you need a valuation for tax or insurance purposes then you will probably have to have it appraised by a broker or surveyor with wooden boat experience.

Finally, there are some Thompson experts on the forum here, and on the WoodenBoat Forum Facebook group (not officially associated with this forum but with some of the same people). If you post in either place with “1962 Thompson Utility” in the title you will be more likely to get advice from someone with specific knowledge.

Ah - I see that you have already connected with Andreas and that he has answered your question. If you are the buyer then the only real answer is what is it worth to you?
