Default BROTM Opinion piece: 20% into the 21st Century,

    I am totally unimpressed!

I expected better things....I'm not sure what but better.

I should have had a clue with the whole Y2K B.S. But I was slow to catch on. I guess because the first few years were gang busters. But since the great crash....things have never really brought our feet back square on the ground.

Please try and convince me things are better now than 25 years ago.

The neo con in the first few years of the century set the ball in motion for a bad start and it’s been all downhill from there leading to the current mess. Interesting to note the swerve to the right is not limited to USA and was well underway before Trump. The real damage began with thatcher’s economic policies and associated ideology. In the west, Conservative and progressive Govts ran with it! The consequent re distribution of income towards the wealthy minority is the real kicker and who knows how there will be a redress before significant social dislocation??

You can have new eyes. New knees. New hips. Routine. Hepatitis has been cured. Covid-related violence aside, murder rates are lower. Cars are dramatically safer. Hunger is gone, replaced by fat people with food insecurity. You can see pictures of the beginning of the universe on your phone while sitting on the toilet. About every song you have ever heard is available for you to listen to instantly, also while you sit on the toilet. Your hernia will be repaired with a robot and leave tiny scars. Your clogged artery can be repaired with a medicated stint and you can be up and about the next day, back to normal in a week, probably feeling better than before the stint. Electric car momentum is probably unstoppable. Solar is dirt cheap.

Cell phones are extraordinary. You have what is essentially the world’s most powerful research tool in the history of mankind in your pocket. For when you are bored on the toilet.

True...but they are a bit of a ball and chain. There is no escaping when everything and everyone is connected.

    Things, things, things.

    But are human connections healthier?
A society predicated on the assumption that everyone in it should want to get rich is not well situated to become either ethical or imaginative.

    Okay good one dog,

    I'm feeling melancholy.

I found out my sister's best friend became another statistic. Murdered. Her husband shot her, her dog and himself. This happened last week while we were on vacation. They didn't tell me until today because there wasn't anything we could do and no one wanted to ruin our trip. It is so common in my country it didn't make the news.

She was a wonderful woman and such a good friend and business associate to my sister. I guess there had been warning signs of his mental illness but he hadn't received any help.

    Thanks Blue Dog!

I'm not really sure how to feel or react! I feel sad.

Their children are young adults. Their youngest son went to school and college with my nephew. He just graduated from NC State. Their daughter is just a couple of years older.

Although they weren't business partners, my sister and Amber helped each other out. Now, all of Amber's clients and contractors are looking to my sister for help finishing her projects. My poor sister is finding it hard to find time to greave, it's all so horrible and weird.
