Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
I post myself on a Vespa without a full face helmet, Isle of Man leathers, gloves, boots and knee pads and I’m crucified, but the Queen Mum can fly around sans helmet and in knickers and all is forgiven![]()

The caption for this photo, from http://www.ridingvintage.com/2013/07...eld-games.html, reads
"This race is a lot more difficult that it appears. Boards are lined up end to end and each participant must ride down the boards keeping both tires on the boards at all time. The boards often get narrower in width the farther down the course you go. More boards can be added if multiple riders complete the first run successfully."
So probably not very fast. But it looks like her front wheel just came off the plank.
This game looks like more fun. Or something:
"The weenie bite requires a rider and a passenger. At the start of the competition, hot dogs are hung from a string about six feet off the ground. Each team rides under a hot dog and the passenger stands up and takes a bite. Whichever passenger takes the biggest bite without the rider touching the ground wins."

^ Thanks, so probably a fast walk.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

I wish I could find the pic of mum on pillion with dad riding on the Wall of Death.

I have run a lot of field events at rallies. Slow speed on grass. No helmets
One of my favorites was blindfold slalom with a sidecar

The faster you go, the easier it is to balance on narrow things.
Of course, I only regularly balance my little kid push bike on curbs, but the same applies to the motorbike, which I admittedly don’t ride much anymore.
Still. I love the balance game, and I’m good at it.
Slow races are interesting. Usually won by people with experience on trials bikes, who just balance on two wheels until everyone else ends the race or falls over

My daughter's wedding last year had a pinata hanging from a tree in their back yard, and we would ride by on a low-powered motorbike and take a swing at it. Not easy in the dark in a bumpy orchard. No helmets or jackets, but my daughter (second photo) is wearing boots. No injuries and we had a blast. For the record, on the road my daughter is very safe rider, always in helmet, jacket, boots.
