Shame. I doubt Charles will be as loved.

Ah well - guess we're all 'at that age'. I've been watching the 'icons' of the age die past many years. It does seem she was Queen forever. Transition time in a rapidly changing world.

I wonder what name Charles will use as his crowned name?

Charles Philip Arthur George will probably take King George VII as his official moniker. Charles is an unlucky name for a British monarch.

A momentous moment for Brits, I would imagine. Sad to hear it--it seems the end of an era.

A shame - she was a great monarch. I don't imagine Charles will be as popular

Now that Popes abdicate, I think that the King will follow that precedent after perhaps three to five years. He is long past wanting the job.

She seemed to be active right up until her passing, really. She was an amazing individual with a devotion to service that will be hard to match.

    May her family find peace.

He has apparently opted for Charles III.

The cynic in me assumed that is to avoid confusion.

With the message that "the Firm" telegraphed during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee of environmental consciousness, it will be interesting to see if Charles is an active part of that shift from the throne. At this point in time, it would appear that energy and its impact on climate are going to be significant worldwide, but particularly so in the UK right now.

Whatever His opinions, which are strongly held, Charles now has to be seen to be politically neutral.

Charles has long been a proponent of environmental protection and organic farming. We’ll soon see if his enthusiasm amounts to any form of popular activity.

I was in high school in London in '77 when she had her Silver Jubilee. Quite a spectacle and I remember being so impressed with her poise and bearing through it all.

    God bless her.

I predict that you will be right about that. There’s not much doubt about who her favourite Official Visitors were.

True, but I think the environmental concerns can be seen in that light. The positive effects that environmental action may have might have political repercussions, but we'll need to wait and see.

King Charles inherited his concern for the environment from his father, who was President of the WWF back in the Sixties, long before most people had heard of such things.

And I predict that we will see wall to wall coverage on American cable news outlets for the foreseeable future. While we may have renounced the crown 246 some odd years ago it certainly hasn't dimmed, at least in the last fifty years or so, American's fascination with the monarchy.

My guess is that more than a few big gun anchors are already in the air on their way to the British Isles to cover the next couple of days worth of tributes, the funeral and all of the attendant pomp and circumstance.

I'm young enough where I've never known a world without Queen Elizabeth II as the reigning monarch. She was one classy lady who at times had to deal with a few obstreperous family members, and was witness obviously, to some fairly major world events of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Yep, The Duke was the first President of WWF-UK from its foundation in 1961 to 1982, and President of WWF-International from 1981 to 1996. https://wwf.panda.org/discover/knowl...rince_phillip/

Probably Bill Clinton and W, too, but probably not the orange taint.

This is an odd feeling. She was already old when I first learned of her existence. At the age of 96, death should not be a surprising thing. And yet, I feel oddly surprised. It's as if the leaning tower of Pisa fell all of a sudden.

Pretty amazing woman, met with 13 us Presidents and even liked to take part in fixing her land rovers, RIP Queen Elizibeth.
