It's close, it seems. The family is gathering with her at Balmoral - Prince Charles and Camilla, now also William, a live news report says.

She's been Queen all my life, all most of our lives. I'm feeling emotional, as I'm certain are countless millions across the UK, Commonwealth countries, and beyond. Imo, she's done a splendid job.

At the same time, she must be exhausted. Were I her, I'd be hoping this was it.

Being polite to Boris and Ms Truss in one day must have been a strain.

It was perhaps reckless to expose a frail 96 year old to such a heavy toxic load. But she's never shirked duty, however distasteful.

I'm old enough to remember her father's death, her coronation, a close encounter in 1954 when she was on tour here. She's done a good job I think.

When there were reports of mobility problems, I hoped that the BBC's props department might provide an answer....

Harry and Megan are flying in too.

Hell, even Kaiser Wilhelm traveled to Victoria's side when it was the end. In fact, she literally died in his arms.

Queen Mary made it to what, 101? This may be a blip for Elizabeth.

When I was 6 years old, we lived in a development of ranch houses in Whittier California. My parents bought a television set for the sole purpose of watching the coronation. There was a constant flow of neighbors through the house that day. One of my earliest clear memories.

I wish her well and an easy passing if that is her destiny.

Don't worry. Charles is an unlucky name for a British monarch.
Charles Philip Arthur George will probably take King George VII as his official moniker.

The jury is still out whether there was ever a first one.

I think Arthur pre-dated juries. More a trial by combat era, IIRC.

Buckingham Palace announces that Queen Elizabeth has passed.

They comment that the King and Queen Consort will stay at Balmoral tonight, and return to London tomorrow.

A tick of the clock, and the President of the US' term of office ends.

Endless blood has been shed to pick a new monarch. When the combat and persecution ends, the new monarch becomes a hostage to the new balance of power, for life. I think it's cruel.

OTOH Elizabeth has shown what a sense of duty can overcome. A very brave, intelligent, and loyal hostage.

Imagine threading your excruciating life for 70 years through what that tiny little girl did.

    No nitpicking. She was amazing.
