they don't have any salt on the crackers. It take some real brass to label them "Saltines"

They’re called ‘saltines’ because they were originally made with salt to leaven the flat bread as travellers crossng the hot plains needed an alternative to leavening with yeast. Nothing to do with how salty they look or taste. You can get unsalted saltines which only means ‘not sprinkled with salt on top,’ like your wife brought home. More generically, historically called ‘soda bread.’ Because baking soda, not because it’s fizzy like a beverage. This has been your one minute quasi history lesson for today.

I brought a box home last week that were so salty I couldn’t eat them. Had to throw them out. Consistency is not their forte at that plant.

I use to lay on my bunk with a stack of those, read a novel, and pound the whole stack before turning out the light. Now I can't remember the last time I had any.

Saltine is a brand name in addition to a type of cracker.
The box likely also states, Unsalted Tops.

Haven't bought any in ages, but in High School I'd eat a sleeve a night with a bug hunk of Tillamook cheddar and a Coke. I still like the cheese, but haven't touched a saltine or a Coke in years.

Triscuits are great, too; more of a cocktail party cracker.

Got through college years on saltines & Kraft sharp cheddar. Guinness helped too.
