A friend recommended “Tower”, a minute by minute look at the Texas Tower shootings of August 1, 1966. It’s told through a combination of actual footage, radio broadcasts, and a form of animated illustration. I was mesmerized.
Especially moving were the interviews with some victims and the heroes of the day, and how those 90 minutes in Austin 56 years ago continue to haunt.

Not a historian, and likely wrong, but I remember that as the first instance of a sniper shooting random strangers in a surprise ambush.

Yup. In “Full Metal Jacket” Gunny Hartman boasts of the Marine Corps sharpshooters Whitman and Oswald.
