Default Great. Now everyone’s gonna be fly fishing.

It’s only the fear of these little critters (and bears) that keep the riff-raff out of the honey holes.

Ken had a tick crawling on him the other day and flipped out. It hadn’t even latched on yet.

Good news. I don't see any mention of protection from all the other tick-borne illnesses.

    Little steps.

Didja know that Kris Kristofferson was diagnosed with Alzheimers and had been undergoing treatment with a drug that was supposed to lessen the symptoms. After almost a year, his wife met a doctor on a plane and he was quite interested. He asked a bunch of questions about Kris’ symptoms before the treatment. He then suggested that what she was describing was Lyme disease, not Alzheimers. Sure enough, it was. He’s doing fine now.

By now, who hasn't fly fished? It's completely mainstream. I preferred it when it was kind of "off beat" like falconry or dog sledding. That damned movie ruined it.

I don’t blame him. For some reason, when they mess me up much worse than a mosquito bite (even without the Lyme Diseae factor), so I do everything possible to protect myself from them.

Well, if we keep this thread towards the top, Baxter might post a photo of him doing it before it was cool.

    It’s funny you should ask…

Gordo has caught not one, but two, dragonflies.

#1 was one of those monster guys with a body the size of my finger. He actually “clove-hitched” that one (aka: Indiana Jones it) with his tippet. Impressively enough, that fly was able to stay airborne while suspending 30 feet of #3 fly line as well.

#2 was one of those bright blue damsels. Poked that one right through the thorax, midcast.

Since it was Gordo who got them both, it’s safe to assume they were each brought to hand on a #16 Purple Patriot.

I did it back before it was cool. Had a buddy in the 70's who was a nut about it, and tried several times to show me how it was done. It didn't take. I guess we could say I 'outgrew' it before it ever became cool

I'm more into spincasting, or trolling. Though I have done my share of trout-tickling when it was hot out and I wasn't hungry.

Been Fly fishing from about 1967 on.
Hate ticks and they like me. We had a warm Deer Season in 2010 and ticks all over me.
Buddy of mine, I lost count of his Lyme infections. Doctors East of LaCrosse suck and he dang near died couple times.
An effective vaccine will liberate my life to fearlessly get into the woods.

Have fly fished a bit but not enough to be really good at it.
Still would say that I enjoyed it though.

Ken needs to make friends with the neighborhood bugs <};-)

Several years ago, I woke up one morning to find a tick firmly attached to my abdomen. I sterilized an X-acto knife with rubbing alcohol and removed a chunk of skin, tick and all. What else was I to to? Walk around all day with the critter in my undies?

Doctor said not to worry unless it was chewing on me more than 36 hours.

I began fly fishing in the early 60's. My dad taught me and I read a lot of books that got my into tying flys. I got pretty good at that especially after I joined a local club that hosted tying sessions. The old guys there were more than happy to have a kid in the group who was really interested in the craft. The whole sport then was anything but cool. And truth be told, I wasn't aware that it is cool now!

I know enough people with lyme disease to take the vaccine as soon as it reaches the market
