    Default Day off Summer drive.

    IMG_6782.jpgIMG_6784.jpgIMG_6791.jpgIMG_6794.jpgIMG_6822.jpg

I had the day off work today. It was a random day off with no plans scheduled. In my department, because it is small yet we need to insure daily coverage, we pick our vacation days for the whole year each November. Today was just a random day I pick last fall to have off. It is really hot this week so I decided to drive up to the mountains this morning. It's about 10 degrees Fahrenheit cooler up on the front ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

There are some nice 4x4 trails that lead through some public land.

a little bit North and East of Waynseboro. on the Eastside of the range. North of Charlottesville and just down the mountainside from Skyline Drive.

It's a really nice area to go primitive camping. No crowds you need a 4x4 to get up that road. There are some pretty steep and rocky sections of the road. My photos do do it justice. Can't very well drive and shoot photos at the same time.

I've spent a lot of time in the mountains of northern Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina which look very similar. One year on vacation, I drove the Blue Ridge Parkway up to the Virginia line. The next year, I got on the parkway near the Virginia line and drove both the rest of it and Skyline Drive. I was primitive camping and would just find a place to camp each night usually on National Forest land.

I can feel the humidity. But I guess that makes it green. Still, I ain't moving back.

Just think of the two armies that bivouacked in those lands 158 years ago. Waynesboro was where Jubal Early’s army was defeated.
If I resided in that area, I’d invest in a high end metal detector.

80’s F. in the mountains and 90-100F in the piedmont and tidewater. Very humid is the norm.
