All Trump knows is lying. He does it as easily as breathing. And you can see in the outtakes from his Jan statement that he knows he is lying.

It is true that they don't know they are telling lies because they get their information from only one voice that is SHOUTED at them from multiple places. The lock-step march of the right does not provide room for thinking or debate. They use fear and blame from a chorus of voices all singing the same tune. We are talking about people who don't realize they aren't thinking about the problem. They have their talking points and they know the right responses, but they don't put things together.

They don't deliberately lie (or at least, not the rank & file while the leaders do). They just don't know any better and they don't want to know.

This guy knows damn well he is lying. He is one of the major sources of this cancer but his lies are very profitable. If he didn’t know he was lying they wouldn’t have stonewalled discovery forever.

You can't appeal a civil verdict on the basis of ineffective counsel, only a criminal matter. In a civil case, the client is the one who hires the lawyer and so you can't complain if you hire a bad attorney. You can sue your lawyer for malpractice, but it does nothing to the underlying verdict.

right. This stuff feels so criminal that I forgot it was a civil suit!

This lawyer who "accidentally" sent everything to the plaintiff... is there a gofundme or something for his Free Drinks For Life fund somewhere? I'm in for $20

Exactly. Those words from the judge were not forthcoming.

Did Alex Jones get lawyer recommendations from TFG?

i like the bit where the plaintiff's attorneys haven requested by "several Federal agencies" to share the data dump from Jones' phone. Among which is the January 6 Committee.

    4 million dollars? Compensatory. That’s a joke.

Lets hope the punitive damages are a lot more.

The plaintiff's attorney appeared very happy in his press conference. He had a big smile on his face and called this, "A good start." He said when it is all said and done he expects a total judgement against Alex Jones running to nine figures.

If it's that blatant could it open his lawyers to sanctions by the law authorities, or his professional association? Not to mention contempt proceedings against them for wasting the court's time.

I’d like to see Jones do some real time for perjury. Make an example of him for all the other MAGA liars out there.

    2 hours ago:

The jurors have left the courtroom to decide on the amount of punitive damages, if any, that Jones must pay Lewis and Heslin for defaming them with his Infowars broadcasts denying the truth of the shooting and implying on his show that Heslin was lying when he spoke publicly about cradling his son’s body after the shooting. The jury is now deliberating. Awaiting their verdict

They've come back. About $45M in punitive damage, subject to whatever restrictions Texas law may put on it.

Clearly the jury was aware that this was but the first of 3 such cases by different groups of the parents, and they were considering the resources which should be left for them to tap.

Word is that Texas has a $750,000 cap on punitive damages in a lawsuit.

    True?

    Or not?

I believe one of his other pending trials takes place outside of Texas.

    From Bloomberg: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...nitive-damages

In Texas, there are statutory limits on punitive damages, with a per-defendant cap of two times the amount of economic damages, plus the amount of noneconomic damages found by the jury -- the latter part not to exceed $750,000.

Judge Maya Guerra Gamble of the 459th District Court in Travis County may reduce the punitive damages given those caps, and Jones' attorneys said immediately after the verdict that they would file a motion to reduce the punitive award.

"We do not believe punitive damage caps are constitutional as applied to our case and will certainly litigate that issue if necessary," Mark Bankston, one of the plaintiffs' attorneys, told Bloomberg Law.

Just as a side not, I believe Abbott signed the punitive damages cap into law AFTER he collected a rather large sum in his own case.

What disgusting example of a dead conscience that man is! Then again I’m reminded of how passé the notion of conscience seems to be.

Watching him on the stand is something else. The guy has zero remorse, zero conscience. He is a leech on society. I cannot find a single redeeming quality.
He and his cohost blatantly violate court rules even while the trial is going on. I am surprised the judge didn’t find them in contempt and that perjury has not become an issue.

    Yet.

I'd bet that in Mr Jones's case, it's genuine mental illness, some variety of sociopathy / personality disorder, where he genuinely doesn't know the difference between truth and lies, at least when it comes out of his own mouth.
