I'd bet that in Mr Jones's case, it's genuine mental illness, some variety of sociopathy / personality disorder, where he genuinely doesn't know the difference between truth and lies, at least when it comes out of his own mouth.

I just cannot imagine going through life like that guy. Seems like a miserable existence, no matter how much money he has.

And perjury charges would not surprise me if they were pursued. The lack of contempt charges from the judge thus far does surprise me.

There does seem to be a lack of will to actually hold people accountable.

I find some small encouragement in that AP article labeling him as "conspiracy theorist Alex Jones". He's been given gracious titles like "journalist" or "podcaster" or "firebrand of the right" for too long.

He's still on the air because he's filed for bankruptcy, and part of that process is about enabling you to generate income (under much scrutiny) so that you can pay off the debts (like court judgements).

The bankruptcy is opening another can of worms, though, because the vitamin/supplement supplier to which pays big money appears to be "owned" by his parents, and the order fulfillment company to which he pays big money appears to be a very poorly-veiled subsidiary of infowars.

I find it a bit odd, and a bit comforting, that more and more see limits to 'free speech'. Fraud, Libel, slander and inciting violence are not free speech. At least that's what I was taught.

Remember about a year ago when a CT judge issued a default judgement against Jones for failing to cooperate in the discovery process? The trial to decide damages starts today.

It does not begin well for poor mr jones, as the judge has already (before the jury even enters the room) sanctioned Jones legal team for further failure to cooperate; They are forbidden from attempting to argue or submit evidence that Jones did not profit from his lies.

That should save some time.
