How do you use a bow cleat with a big eye? Does it help with the fact it looks nearly impossible to get out on that bow until you’re part mountain goat?

I think we would find it connects to a threaded rod sent down to the keel :for lifting the boat . The same are on the quarters ,connected to the transom.

    Is that parking brake?

Looking at this makes me think about the similarly sized/styled Dunphy hiding under a tarp in my yard waiting very patiently for me to get around to bringing her back to life.

The vertical rod towards the centerline from the wheel? That's the shifter.

The photos show that the aft eye/lifting rod is at centerline as is the bow eye.

I do not recommend ever lifting the boat using those eyes. I saw one of the rods fail when an Islander 18 was being launched many years ago.
