I miss Michael too and wondered why he'd gone AWOL. Here's a guess/question: Since Michael's issue related to the WBF being weaponised against him and his business, does that, in US law, place WB in a vulnerable legal position should any damages suit occur? To avoid this and protect WB, WB then has to either regularly check all of Michael's input and derivatives or simply eliminate him from the Forum. Just guessing that maybe that's what occurred.

Also, we don't really know what Scot et al are required to do to eliminate all of a member's posts. It's probably a lot less than manually deleting 26,000 posts but, say it actually takes an hour (I have no idea). Then WB would have to consider the impact of doing this for anyone who requests it or is deemed vulnerable for any reason. Just pondering the issues aloud here. I would very much like to see Michael back here and hope also that a workaround might be found.

I, too, miss mmd. Hope that somehow he can come back.
As for floating hats, I was zipping along yesterday in my Jericho Bay Lobster skiff (25hp) at the
blistering speed of 26 mph when my wide brimmed WB hat went flying off my head and over the transom.
I circled around and found it floating upside down, just waiting for me to pick it up.
How long it would have floated, I don't know.

    That don't sound right.
I agree 100%. Scot's generally very reasonable and puts up with a lot, but this doesn't seem right. Not only is mmd a great guy, he actually knows about boats and posted interesting and useful things. I hope the WB people will change their minds

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in here and hope that MMD gets a reprieve. I always found his posts interesting.

    Hi All -

Got an email from Michael this morning:

If you happen to revisit your ‘Tip o’ the hat’ thread today, would you be so kind as to pass on my appreciation (and slight embarrassment) of all the kind things being said of me.

This is a bit much. I can think of at least two instances where members had all their posts deleted, I assume by Scot by request. One of them left of his own accord but the other is still around but totally invisible. I have no idea or what MMD may have said that could be used against him in a business setting but social media is social media and it is best avoided. This forum is just as much social media as Facebook but less in your face. I don't even follow Facebook anymore.

I always found Michael to be a good source for information on such topics as boatbuilding, naval architecture, and the economics of commercial fishing. I miss his posts and I'm sorry to hear the story of his banning.

Some one is way too full of himself. Banning a member who had the experience and knowledge of Michael is a serious blow to the value of being here. As a designer who has faced stealing and plagiarism with no recourse that was effective, I feel for you Michael and hope that Scott or whomever comes to their senses. Its a fuzzy area about whoever owns material posted of a public website but there is usually a lot of leeway in handling it.

Whatever cause or causes for Michael's banning, it's a loss to the WBF.

Michael, if you are ever down this way again, please let me know. It's been a minute. Or two.

Although Michael did like to stir the pot occasionally when it came to art and design, he did it without rancour. He could alway be relied on to post something that made the day brighter, either with a photo, or a comment, or a story. I too miss his voice here, and see the place diminished by his absence.

Michael, if you're out there (and if it's OK with Scott) how about signing up again under a nom-de plume? At least then if trolls copy your comments out of context and bandy them about it won't reflect directly on you or your business? Maybe??? We do miss you!

Oh no. I too miss Michael (mmd) and his interesting posts. Itís understandable, under those circumstances he wanted his posts removed. I donít understand why Scot didnít help him get his posts removed as not removing them was detrimental to his business.

mmd, you and your interesting posts were always a breath of fresh air.

Another member here who misses MMD's posts. Few things are more interesting to me than boat designs, and Michael always had something thought-provoking to review and discuss. If he is not reinstated here, I hope to find him on some other forum.

Iím very glad to hear that he didnít depart because of the Actors-Slapping-Actors thread. And that it was for a higher purpose.

But itís troubling that this poaching/misappropriation of posts happened even though he didnít use his real name here.

It limits this siteís contribution potential.

Ridiculous! mmd is one of the reasons I come here.. Did not know he had been banned.

He shared his experience, opinions, wisdom and some very good photography.

Surely the Administrator can figure this out.

I found him a mean bully and he sought to hurt folks. He was rude and he would make inferences that were horrible about people on the forum. I am glad he is not here. providing good content is one thing but the flip of the coin of not being the best human or showing personal respect of others ensures one does not belong in a forum that works hard to show the best of human connections.

if you all want that kind of person - maybe i don't understand many here.

He was. You just forgot and forgave.

I will never forgive him insinuating that there was a member here that was a pedophile when he was defending his points. You can't take that back once said (which he refused to take back). His temper and actions spoke volumes.

Based on his own posts at the time, I got the impression that he decided to leave on his own at least for a while. Now those posts have been removed. Of course, he isn't the first person to be banned after stating that they were leaving. Most or none of us will ever hear Scot's side of the story.

Amazing how people react so differently. Could Michael get a bit wound up? Sure - who can't? I have no memory of his calling a member a pedophile, though there was talk of the topic in the Canadian Music thread.

Never once saw him bully anyone - though he'd stand up to what he considered people trying to bully him.

As to his leaving voluntarily - he did not.

Michael is one of the good guys, for sure. How rare is it to get to read comments from a guy like him, with his experience and wide breadth of knowledge?

I don't post that much here, but to see that he has been banned is quite surprising, and just a bit of a shock. Perhaps his sentence might be reduced to time-served, because he is a positive force in a community that can use of those it can get?

And that was a kind gesture, to send you a new hat.
