Are we indicating by how old we feel, or the actual calendar accounting?

Because the former is a largely moving target and the latter sometimes catches me by surprise that it arrived so quickly. That said I will check the box that adheres to what the calendar indicates.

Just turned 69.
Still skiing, still building wooden boats.
I've been blessed with good health and hope to break my Mom's record of hitting 96.
That said, I certainly know I'm not 30 years old anymore.

By the way, the polling results match perfectly with the ages of parishioners at my church!

Just passed 75 in April - haven't built any boats, but sailed all over the Northern Hemisphere on gray-painted ships for 12 years (if that counts) .

Soon to be 69, and building a fast rowboat to use on local lakes. So far, we are enjoying pretty good health and a relatively active lifestyle. It occurred to me that when I was a kid hanging around the docks in coastal CT, the old salts sitting around swapping sea stories may have started their careers as fishermen under sail.

An idea I've had for some time, is that we all have younger versions of ourselves in some inner place. Specifically, in whatever moment is your now, you have an appropriately aged younger you inside for reference. I am still fourteen for some things, and thirty for some others. It hurt when I realized, some time back, that I actually can't throw a softball any distance or with the old pepper I had when I played on a city or base league back in the day. Just last night something on the tube reminded me of being fortyish and playing sand volleyball on a city-league team. Crap.

70 here, though my Dacron aorta is only 8 and we don't know the age of the cow valve it is attached to. Part natural, part synthetic and part beef - just like a cheap hot dog! I'm actually enjoying not building much of anything lately. Instead, I'm enjoying using some of the stuff that I already have.

Just turned 72.

I grew up at the mouth of the Columbia - always around boats. My parents had a rustic cabin at the Southern end of Puget Sound. I was on one of their boats, an 18' cabin cruiser, they tell me, literally the day after my birth.

Got my very own first boat for a 10th birthday present. It was an 'almost finished' 8' plywood pram that a buddy of my dad's died before finishing. So dad & I finished it together. So I guess you could say my career as a boatbuilder began at age 10 ?!?!? <G> Worked as a deckhand on a salmon gillnetter as a teenager. Could always pick up some pocket money as a younger kid unloading the gillnetters. Or backloading ice.

Current fleet is 7. Considering adding a SUP (Taal design by Mik Storer). The latest addition is a small cabin cruiser designed and built by a friend, and large enough to be a 'family boat'. But also edging toward a thinning of the herd. I'd rather play with the grandbabies than do boat maintenance.

The gap at the young end. Hopefully indicates the use of different platforms rather than a diiterest in sailing, though if you want a keel boat it is an expensive, and time consuming hobby/passion.

Still fit and healthy (cross fingers) and sailing an old wooden racing dinghy. Few problems with skiers knee and rugby players hip but that's to be expected.

61 recently. I do not even know how I got so enamored with old wood boats. Romantic dreams from living a land locked youth, perhaps. I grew up in a land of cowboys and rodeo, hard work work, summer time hay hauling, digging deep to make a modest way in life. I Found this magazine, Woodenboat, and then the forum. Managed to cobble together a small canoe or two. Found some great friends in the process. And now, I am retiring after 35 years of service to Uncle Sam, 31 of which I have adored each moment. I hope to start a build on a cedar strip or skin on frame guideboat soon&hellip;. To transport my darling through cool, quiet water, and to cast a fly line, on occasion. I don&rsquo;t think I could have dreamed a more rewarding career, professionally. But, I am excited to spend sweet, precious time, living in the simple moments ahead&hellip;.. how much does one really need, when you already have the gift of love and grace.

On a sobering note, we must all be on the lookout for depression as we age.
Loss of friends and loved ones will increase and that is not easy to face.
Not to be a Debbie-downer, but always be alert to this and find ways to combat it
early.
