While the threat is in office, the procedure is impeachment, and part of the remedy is a bar to future federal office.
While the threat is not in office, the procedure is the next election and the remedy is victory. Only way to "prevent".
Such are the ways of the republic. A democracy could do whatever pleased the majority, at any time.

He should be charged with bad manners and an embarassment as a prezdent.
I'd term Dump a "sewer rat loser" but it might harm the rats' reputation.

Then there are two alternatives: criminal conviction, and removal upon impeachment.
My point all along has been, why wait to see what happens with impeachment? Suppose the conviction or acquittal for crime, and the conviction of acquittal upon impeachment, one of each, should occur within a nanosecond of each other. So what? When you have two procedures, you pursue both, not one to the exclusion of the other, or paralyzed entirely by false dichotomy.

THIS WAS THE WHOLE REASON FOR THE 2ND IMPEACHMENT
The fact that he didn't get convicted and almost all republicans held their nose and voted not to convict is all you need to know.
This post is temporary and my disappear at the discretion of the managment
Will he be permitted to wear his too-long red tie with his orange jumpsuit? Or will the authorities figure it just gives other inmates too much of a head start with a lynching in his cell. Follow-up q: how strong does his tie have to be to suspend that carcass? Does Carbon Fiber come in red?
One way to prevent Trump from running again: pass a law requiring candidates release tax returns.
I'd like to think there are those in the republican party, members of the senate, that wish they had convicted him.
We don't KNOW what DOJ is doing. A lot of s**t can hit the fan before Nov. and a lot more by Nov. '24
Will the price of gas, which the government has little control over, be the issue people vote on, or will abortion, which the government has more control over, be the issue?
"alternative facts (lies)" are a cancer eating through a democracy, and will kill it. 1st amendment is not absolute.
In an interview excerpted on last night’s evening news congresswoman Cheney as much as told the DoJ to not wait for the hearngs she’s vice-chairing to supply a recommendation, and to pursue bringing indictments for the criminal actvities he’s already known to be involved with. IOW, let’s go, boys. Saddle up and bring the rope. As it were.
Time, and well past.

I don't know that there's any mechanism by which the Executive and the Legislature can speed each other up or slow each other down. Hopefully they find ways to cooperate, but each is sovereign within its jurisdiction.
Congress "referring" a matter for enforcement is like the DOJ "referring" a matter for legislation.

I think that was her point. They’ve done, or at least gotten well under way with their duty as representatives to investigate and inform the country in a public forum the true nature and extent of the January sixth insurrection. And there’s no need to wait, the target of that message being both the general public and the various concerned branches and departments of the government as well as the several interested parties, to wit, the D and R incumbents and their parties.

His federal retirement should be withdrawn as well along with his secret service detail.

Without friends none of this is possible.
Of course he should, and AG Merrick Garland is proving to be worthless. If he doesn't indict, fire his butt. Kamala Harris was a tough prosecutor, make HER attorney general instead.

Is there such a thing as accessory to attempted murder?
.
Donald Trump is 76 years old. Just charge him with the felony most likely to result in conviction. Once imprisoned he will not return to public office. Adolf Hitler was 35 years-old when he was tossed in stir. A completely different circumstance.

Would you offer to drop the charges if he could spell them correctly?
Trump Derangement syndrome on overload.
The oathkeepers testifying on why they thought they would be federalized might turn interesting.
^ Yeah. Besides taking away the SS detail and whatever other perqs an ex-pres gets, we should insist that there be zero, no ZERO, traditional deference to the office for that usurping erstaz piece of festering treasonous orange sh!t. Gitmo. Tiny cot. No ice cream.

He should, but instead he is chomping at the bit to announce another run for the presidency. This is all going to end very badly for our country, I am afraid.
How long before 'we', the collective people who despise this charlatan, begin to worry about voicing our opinion on forums like this one? How long before we have our own version of the Brown Shirts going door to door with lists? Because if the Orange One had his way, it'd already be happening.

In common vernacular ‘impeach’ means to accuse, but in the sense we’re using, it means to remove from office, a very particular legal and political remedy. There’s no point, and no process, for impeaching a former governmental officer. He’s already out of office. Of course he can still be indicted and prosecuted for any criminal misdeeds while in office. He’s not a president; he’s a former president. For all that his actual holding of the office was under a cloud of illegitimacy due to the Russian election tampering.
