converting short to long shaft outboard?

Hi. i am looking for a long shaft 9.9 and someone offered me a good 9,8 tohatsu short shaft and i was wondering if i can convert it to a long shaft and how much that would cost? and any places to get the parts?

Some years ago I faced the same issue and came to the conclusion that unless I got lucky and scored some second hand parts, It made economic sense to sell my short shaft and buy a long shaft motor. Technically it is not difficult to do if you can source the parts at reasonable prices. Tracking them down may prove problematic.

thanks for the reply i think i will install a bracket on my transom with a spacer that is at the correct height so that i dont need to cut the transom it seems like a good cheap way to do it.
