What would you do with it?
Would it change your life?
Would you sail away? Invest it? Splurge?
(And BTW it's tax free)

Keep a couple of hundred K for rainy day money, and split the rest between my two kids as a useful contribution to buying their own homes.

The Ignore feature, lowering blood pressure since 1862. Ahhhhhhh.
Pay debts. Fill up the jeep.
I had the good sense to save and invest. That turned out better than waiting for someone to hand me a million dollars.
At some time I will pass on a million dollars to my kids or grandkids. If they ask for it sooner, it will get to them sooner rather than later. I expect it will not change their lives one bit.
Life is complex.
Go to the EBS at Mystic, get drunk, start a fight and make up with others. Make my boats perfect making them the envy of everyone who see them. Buy a small country house in the south of France and maybe rent a condo in Capetown near the harbor this winter.

Without friends none of this is possible.
Invest just before the midterms.
Fight Entropy, build a wooden boat!
A million bucks ain't so much these days...
If I did anything but sock it away for long term health care and pretend it didn't exist, it would indeed screw up my life.
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
Wouldn't but you an average house here these days.
It'd be just the right amount to complete the 'family compound' fund. With enough left over to fund a 6-month sabbatical for my sweetie to finish up her current novel. And maybe get a good head-start on the next. Oh, and maybe a new motorcycle for me. <G>

The old salt was asked what he did with the money. "Lots and houses," he said. "Lots of whiskey and whorehouses....."
What's not on a boat costs nothing, weighs nothing, and can't break
Buy my parents the bungalow they really ought to be in rather than the two story house on a steep hill they are in.
Just an amateur bodging away..
You asked: What would you do with it? I answered: I would pass it on to my kids and grandkids.
You asked: Would it change your life? I answered for my kids and grandkids: I don't think it will change their lives. I base that on my life not changing due to having "extra" money.
Life is complex.
A million really isn't that much nowadays.
I'd invest it in some good wine.
None of the screw cap crap.![]()
I was born on a wooden boat that I built myself.
Skiing is the next best thing to having wings.
My brother doesn't have his own home, I would get him one. I have enough money for myself.
There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.
Are you John Barrisford Tipton?
I would buy property, woodlots, as much as I could with the rest in a trust to pay the taxes.
I’d get an electric side by side. Send rounds of Pt Reyes blue cheese to a few dozen friends and family. Get myself tutored, cajoled and coaxed into mischief by grandkids. Send $100k to the nearest Planned Parenthood clinic. $100k to local preschool parent/ education programs. Maybe assemble a stockpile of bicycles. Not sure about the rest.
Could you make it $100 million? More that I think about it after rereading Ted’s itinerary blowing a million in a week also sounds doable. There’s a lot of blue cheese out there.

Okay. So I’m the only one who remembers John Barrisford Tipton.

Magazine subscriptions.
Pay off my debts and my children's. Fund every politician I could that promises to reverse the loony Supreme Court decisions of the last 2 days.

£'s Change it into 5 pence pieces and ask the Bank Manager to lay it out on the floor in as small room where I could roll about in it for an hour or two ballock naked
I would then ask him to return it to his vault and tell him I would be back next Saturday to repeat the performance.
PS. I think now, I'd also ask for a heater.![]()

I'm trading up in accommodation, some will be set aside for University fees for grandkids when they get to that age, the rest is being socked away in investments to create a reasonable level of income for when I dont feel like working.

An expert is but a beginner with experience.
At my age, I'd put half of it away towards future need, and blow the rest of it. Toys, travel, etc. Either that, or I'd go into the boat building business until it was gone.
Wouldn't want to waste it, so spend it on fine wines and women.
NPR did a series (years ago, maybe 10?) that tracked people who won massive lottery payouts.
Without exception, that sudden massive infusion of cash ruined their lives. In many different ways. It was a fascinating series of longform interviews.
Just sayin'...

I'm impressed with how many would use it to help others. Nice.
