Post Boat Show EBS

We are having a handful of Forumites over after the Mystic Show. The itinerary is that individuals will be trickling in here on Sunday afternoon, the 26th, and staying the night. Here in this case being Medford, in the delightful Long Island Pine Barrens. We're full up but anyone's welcome to make their own arrangements. Monday's itinerary includes a trip to the famous Maritime Museum of Long Island to look at yet more boats, some of them Gil Smith creations. Yes, that Gil Smith. I might add here that Mr. Smith was not from la-de-da Sayville, where the museum is located, but from decidedly more downmarket Patchogue, a few miles to the east, a fact not stressed.

However, a good time will be had by all.

Then it's back to the ranch, luncheon options to be decided by those present, pleasant conversation and a few naps to follow...aaaannndddd then we'll see what everybody wants to do about dinner.


That's about it, delicious cold snack plates and beer will be provided throughout by the hosts. Extremely casual attire will be gracefully tolerated by all, and there's plenty of parking.


There is room for tents should anyone like to camp but the number of sites is limited, so a reservation might be wise.

I am so bummed out.
We are headed to Virginia on July 2nd to visit our daughter and family as they await the birth of their next child supposedly later that week.
We will be self-quarantining for ten days prior to that so we can go down there relatively assured we are not bringing Covid with us.
Which means that I will miss both the WBS and this great EBS.

So? So, Steven is wicked funny, and has a great laugh. And, I am an actual child with grey hair. And, the Ledger’s home is rife with bird life. A Lovley, peaceful place to be.

That's really kind of you, Rob. Tracey and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

The EBS itself was a multi-day event, from Sunday afternoon after the boat show to Tuesday morning when most of the guests departed for home or further adventures. Amish Rob hung out until Wednesday, when we delivered him to LaGuardia Airport, the only airport with a shorter runway than San Francisco that ends up in water. It was the airport from which Sully landed in the Hudson after his plane ingested a flock of geese. Rob, you see, doesn't like taking off.

But I digress. We played host to a flock of our own luminaries: Pless, Steven and Mary Bauer, Norm Bernstein, Breakaway Kevin, Roger Holzbt, Tom Tokamecotom, Amish "Actiontiger" Rob, and, last but hardly least, the"Green Lotus", Lew Barrett. We also had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Cris Ross at the boat show. Additionally, we all had the pleasure of dining with Julia and Russ Manheimer at Abbott's On the Water. A splendid time was had by all.

I have to admit to some apprehension that after spending the weekend in a house at the boat show, that we might be all talked out by Sunday night. Needn't have worried. This mob can eat, talk, drink and laugh nonstop for days.

All in all it was a most uplifting few days for me and I think that I can speak for everyone on that point.

So, Next year in Mystic! See y'all there!

Yes. We feel so lucky we were able to join in. Jim and Tracey were the perfect hosts and we’ve wanted to visit the catboat project forever. The Long Island Maritime Museum was so interesting, I could definitely see myself going back to see more.

How could you think we could run out of talk, Jim? Rob and Lew were there! And Paul. I’ve already made your Turkish Eggs twice thanks to Tracy for giving us some of the Aleppo Pepper. And thanks so much for the Ebony and Lignum Vitae for my Studley Hammer project. I did mention the perfect hosts thing, right?

Getting to know Kevin better was great, and Roger and I have met at past boat shows but not had much time to talk before.
