I was listening to "Music From Big Pink" yesterday, it is right up there. "Last Waltz" is up there also.

Hard to beat Dark Side of the Moon.

Miles' "Kind of Blue" is the awesomest of awesome jazz albums, but I wouldn't call it rock or pop.

The first side of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On is outstanding. The second side is a bit weaker, but still very good.

Songbird by Eva Cassidy was a compilation album (and put together and released after her death), but it is an elegant little taste of heaven.

Quad and I consider an album to be “perfect” if it contains no skip-able tracks. If all the tracks are the same “quality”, and they all vibe and groove and fit together in whatever way, and you want to listen straight through; when you NEED to hear them in order, straight though, that’s a good album.

Of course, you’ve likely seen what I consider art…

Bostons first album. Soaring guitars; equally soaring vocals; a whole new sound vocabulary was wrought with this one.

    Led Zeppelin IV
Yes. Stairway. But, also an unrelenting stream of sonic awesomeness, that ranges from the When The Levee Breaks to Four Sticks to Rock N Roll to Misty Mountain Hop.

Agree also with Music from Big Pink, Seargeant Peppers, Dark Side, and Fillmore East.

Miles Kind of Blue is certainly seminal, and many rock and pop artists acknowledge it as a huge influence ( Duane Allman famously said he wore that record out, gleaning slide guitar inspiration from Miles horn runs) Today, after decades of the music industry force feeding us categories, its easy to say its not rock. But, I am not sure its jazz either. Miles was Miles.

Rob is correct with Devo, of course. Two I'd choose:

    DreadZoneSecondLight.jpg

    Dreadzone, Second Light.

    Kraftwerk_Radio_Activity_album_cover.jpg

    Kraftwerk, Radioaktivität.

Hmm. My funeral is going to leave a fair few people cross.

Something For Everyone is newer, and Quad introduced me to it recently. I still think Hardcore is my favorite DEVO music, because a lot is essentially AWNM before Brian Eno toned it down.

Which, Quad is one of the most musically indiscriminate people I know. He has such a wide range of tastes and enthusiasms, and he’s always sharing them with us. Music is on a lot here, and more often than not we get out lights and a karaoke machine.

It’s great fun singing along to an original pressing of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on wax.

Check Your Head by Beastie Boys. I had forgotten, but it’s pretty cool, and certainly qualifies as “perfect” according to my own arbitrary criteria.
