    Default Firefly

Just watched an interview with Gwynn Shotwell, president of SpaceX. At the end she was asked what her favorite space movie was and she said Firefly, hands down (series, not a movie, from about 2002-3). I hadn’t heard of it. Anyone familiar with it?

    BTW, good interview.

Based on the producer's college days playing Traveler, a science fiction RPG. I love the show, though the "The South Will Rise Again!" undercurrent is a bit annoying at times.

The best. Buy the cd’s. They edit the tv stuff (sometimes). Detracts.

one of the only things I’ll happily rewatch.

Watching the first episode now, looks good except it has commercials. I hate commercials. I’ll have to buy it somehow.

It's all available on DVD (and probably more modern formats now). Watch them in sequence. The networks chopped them up and showed the out of sequence for some stupid reason. Fun stuff

    Firefly?

Joss Whedon series, he of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, etc.

    Highly recommended (all of them).

Firefly is like starwars. Science fantasy. The Expanse is very hard science fiction. They take their physics seriously and managed to combine it with excellent storytelling

Great series, shame about the myopic studio that canned it prematurely.
Slightly different vibe from Firefly, but The Expanse is really good sci fi, also inexplicably cut slightly short. I think there is another book that the tv series never got to, fingers crossed some studio exec has a change of heart and finishes the job properly.

Very true, though the sound in space still erks me.

Season 6 should have been at least spread over 2 seasons. So much was left out.

    Coolll.
If ii knew about the series I've forgotten, maybe it never ran here. But coincidentally the film just appeared on our Netflix and an entertainment page commented on what a good but under rated film it was. Watched it last week.
Makes me think I might go back and watch Altered carbon and cowboy bebop again.

The Expanse is 9 novels and the series covers the first 6. There is a time jump between book 6 and 7 (I hope that's not much of a spoiler) so stopping the series when they did makes some sense. That being said, I totally agree that season 6 was way too short. Hopefully somebody will come along and do the last three books. There has been some talk about it.

The first year of Altered Carbon was wild. And very sexy to boot.

I did not understand the disrepect ladled out for Cowboy Bebop. I have seen both the manga original, and the live action series with John Cho. I liked 'em both.
