So as some of you know my buddy is moving from Amesbury MA to 10 minutes away from me.
Yesterday he asked me if I could post on the local neighborhood site called Nextdoor.
It's a site for local neighbors to exchange information and ask for advice. He asked me to post this

But being that I set up a Nextdoor app for Renee when she was looking to get some Lake Passes for her mother and us she has an account and we have a business account but I don't have an account. When I set up the account I created an innocuous profile of Renee with her dog.

Too minutes after posting the cat query I got a private message from a Luke some shirtless six pack 20 something saying "hi". Knowing all too well where this is heading I decided to play innocently along and said "Hi Neighbor"

Then the slow teasing info on his end. Where do you live, yadda yadda yadda. You are very attractive, what do you do for fun etc etc. Little does he know he's chatting with me the whole time. It's right at the edge of him making a fool out of himself and so I decided to do the right thing and explain that I ( Renee ) am happily married and if he didn't have anything to offer for my friends Cat question it would probably be for the best we stop chatting. I was trying to give him a graceful out.

Yea, I guess modern boys aren't built that way and he immediately went full on defensive and told "Renee" how dare she assume anything and that if she was in such a committed relationship she should have a couple photo in her profile. Kinda violent and nasty.

So it was about that time I decided to toy with him, and apologizes and basically catfished him a little.
Two messages later we get the obligatory dick pic. To which I responded Oh yawwwwwn the dick pic 🙄- Yea this went exactly as planned - Baited, Hooked & Reeled in - thanks for playing have a great day looking at every woman’s profile that posts on Next Door and being totally creepy.

The response was insane a complete unrequited man who used every tool in the how to talk down to woman book. To which I responded: That was fun, BTW you've been chatting with Renees Husband the whole time and we've both been laughing at you. Then I blocked him.

So I'm left sitting here pondering how hard it must be to be a woman in this world.
You post a simple question on a local community website about a cat. You get guys out of the blue trying to hit on you.
You reject them and then they go ballistic and call you derogatory names, when just a few minutes earlier they were trying to flatter you. How horrible it must be to have to deal with this kinda stuff on a daily basis. I never knew what women go through.

Frankly, I don't know why women bother with men at all, but there is hope for them in he future.

Reminds me years ago when I was waiting to cross Broadway at 24th St one hot summer day. A young model dressed attractive to go to an interview ( she was clutching her portfolio ) was waiting to cross as well. Another man old enough to be her father started to make what can only be describes as some kind of sucking/ kissing noise. He puckered up his mouth and make mwwwwwahhh mwaaaah towards the young girl while leering at her. She was just about cowering in panic over this. I looked over at the guy and the girl and said "SO DUDE !!! DOES THAT EVER ACTUALLY WORK " ???? And started making the same silly sucking/kissing noise at him. I asked him rhetorically "So when you do that stupid noise women just always fall for you? I mean otherwise you just look like a fool right ? I mean it must work right ? So how many girls have you dated with that silly sucking/kissing noise ? It stopped him in his tracks and his attention was now turned at me, the young girl smiled at me as the light changed and we walked across the creepy guy did not cross and walked away. I looked at the young girl and apologized for the entire male population.

Let me present the same information differently. For all of recorded history, in almost every society, women have been at least somewhat subordinated, sometimes hideously so. Western culture (meaning descended from the European diaspora, Christian mostly) is by no means unique, and very far from the worst in this respect. But over the past couple of centuries, based on the Enlightenment ideas of equality and universal human rights, most of us have collectively decided that this is completely wrong, written women's equal rights into law, and made large changes in customs as well. Now it's quite imperfect, not everybody agrees, and we have a long way to go to achieve utopia - but by any reasonable measure, we've made a very dramatic amount of progress in civilized countries, and ignoring that is even sillier than pretending we don't have a lot that still needs fixing..

I haven't watched the clip in post 22 yet, and Keith's comment about being embarrassed for having the Y chromosome, rings true. I don't remember where I read it, or if it was a video, and it wasn't exactly news to me, but recently I saw thing, from a woman, about the hassle it is and the fear it sometimes bring to women who have to be out and about and end up somewhere without company or an escort and have a strange man approach, even to help, because of the fact of men so many times using such circumstances to prey on women. Getting raped apparently often starts with, "hi, can I give you a hand with that?" My old man told me back when he was the labor relations director for a private security company, that it wasn't a rare thing for a woman to call the security guard for an escort to her car after dark in an empty parking area, and then get raped—by the guard.

I always tell everyone new who moves into a house on our block the same thing, no matter who they are, that I am home pretty much all the time, and if they ever need something, a plumbing emergency in the middle of the night or just some help lifting or dealing with something that needs more than one person, to call me or come over and get me. Just being friendly and neighborly. Then I read that thing about the burden women face, being approached by a man, any strange man, and it makes me regret making my offer to help. I'll still help, but now I realize that, until a new person has lived here long enough to get to know me and the other neighbors, if it's a woman she'll likely have that gut reaction to be wary of me because I'm a man offering unsolicited help.

And there is no way to actually tell anyone, "oh, that's not me. I'm a nice guy and really genuinely helpful and not interested in getting anything, like sex, back from you just because you're new and I just happen to be here." It's like getting wrongfully accused of some heinous crime—you have to assert your innocence, but that assertion is exactly the same as the lie told by the truly guilty. "I didn't do it. You have the wrong guy." It makes me hold a hate potential for every adult male knowing the thing that women know, that any guy, at any time, might be that one guy who would hold you down and force himself on you just because you're there and he's bigger and stronger.

Unfortunately, rape can sometimes be a successful reproductive strategy for male animals; 'successful' in a purely Darwinian sense. Nature doesn't care. People do.

I am proud to be male. I embrace the best in being a male. I really like that I am a gentleman, that I trained my son to be one. I do not remain friends or hold relationships with other men who prove to be unfit gentlemen.
