I am thinking of selling my 31' half tonner and buying a Nacra 6 to kick it and getting space to build a carbon - composite NACRA styled 36 with bridge storage for myself.

I would eat up the R2AK, Ditch Run and races down the coast.

Every year is different. A sunny r2ak would be a blast on a cat with a wetsuit. The first leg to Victoria was done in a few hours by the fastest boats.

I friend of mine owns a shop in LB that was a Hobie dealer. Last time I talked to him was a while ago and he was about to lose his dealership due to new corporate policies that made it impossible to continue. He's been in the biz a long time. I'm sure he runs across used boats frequently. Jeff really likes to talk boat talk. If a Hobie is really what you want, it might be worth wasting some time on a call.

Hobies are fun, but I don't know about trailering. We have about seven multihulls in our club, mainly Tornadoes. I took a Hobie 14 out some years ago, and discovered it could do a complete back-flip, as opposed to the usual ways of capsizing. That made me think offshore sailing in one probably wasn't such a good idea. We also have about 25 Lasers at the club, which are one of the best board boats for surf and ease of transport.

I trailered a Nacra 18 all over New England & southern Quebec behind a 4 cyl. BMW 320i. No problem at all - though you need to watch the width when maneuvering in tight spaces.

Sadly they told me there is a minimum 2 year plus waiting list for spots.

The dream dies ……. For now

Sure 1-2+ hr drive depending on traffic to do lazy 8’s off shore
I’m looking at Long Beach but the honest fact is I probably wont go out that often if it’s a 1 hr drive to the marina, even if its closer to Catalina.

I used to regularly car top a Laser when I was your age. I probably wasn't as tough and strong as you either. The Laser can give decent performance in the right conditions. Just another possible option if you think the joy of sailing exceeds the hassles involved.

Dude - join a local yacht club. It is a write off and a way to promote your business. You can park the boat there too.

Going to yacht clubs to check them will help you become more connected to your community. besides it is usually cheap to visit instead of join, fun to met new people and get invited to sail with others.
