There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.
We can not outlaw the mental illness that has taken hold in this country. Mass murder with gun violence is a byproduct of the deep national psychosis. Nobody is in charge; criminals, thugs and crazies do what they want including killing children in the name of notoriety, freedom and personal asserted rights. We are so fooked.
Without friends none of this is possible.
you're right we can't outlaw it
we might address it and appropriately fund treatment for it though
Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Hear this news, yet again, and tell me the honorable thing to do isn't to get rid of all guns, every mother-loving one of them, all of them, for hunting, for varmints and pests, for target practice and self-protection and every other plausible excuse, until we can change our culture so that no one ever has to hear this news again. I am so angry I could spit. Yes. All of you who have legitimate uses for guns should voluntarily turn them in, and everyone who has one in his or her possession should be charged with a felony. Until every school kid in America can go to school without this hanging over them. I am so sick of this. Feeling so helpless. Thoughts and prayers your ass off, but figure it out, goddamnit!

I think it is a cop-out to say all mass shooters are mentally ill. Unless you count racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and the like as mental illness.
Very angry tonight.

The GOP will never support legislation to treat mental illness. It doesn't benefit rich people, corporations or anything else in their agenda, therefore it's a non-starter. They-just-don't-care.

"alternative facts (lies)" are a cancer eating through a democracy, and will kill it. 1st amendment is not absolute.
No need to worry about gun control. Just wait until sanity prevails as that's sure to happen soon.

Oregon has the dubious distinction of where modern day school shootings started. A year before Columbine a 15 year old murdered his parents, went to school, shot two kids and wounded about nineteen others.

Ya know, with the Constitution and originalists, it is all about where commas are placed. Never mind that when it was written the US was mostly a frontier, agrarian society where you had to have a gun to fight off beasties of any description.
Now that the NRA and gun manufacturers have a well oiled pipeline to all legislatures (and justices) pushing a decent amendment to the amendment will be nigh on impossible. The US is all about money.

It means people have grossly misunderstood the 2nd amendment.

If I could leave, I would. Who wants to live in such a s——hole country?
Some are saying we should regulate guns the way we regulate cars. Require registration, licenses and insurance. That’s not so crazy, now, is it?
Here is an "interesting" list:

I imagine in a few days we will hear about the shooters prior dealings with police, violent social media posts and anti social tendencies. All the signs were there and yet nobody did anything.
Fight Entropy, build a wooden boat!
My mom's visiting. She observed all the Hispanic names - the police chief, the town, the proximity to the Mexican border . And offer to bet me $100 that the shooter was white, and that the thing was racially tinged. Replacement theory again, trying to keep illegal or legal Hispanic kids from growing up and "replacing" "real" Americans.
I didn't take her bet. F#cking hell, I wish I could, and think my money would be safe.
