No. If someone considering killing themselves decides they want to "go out in a blaze of glory" knows if they shoot up a school they will get just what they want.

We can not outlaw the mental illness that has taken hold in this country. Mass murder with gun violence is a byproduct of the deep national psychosis. Nobody is in charge; criminals, thugs and crazies do what they want including killing children in the name of notoriety, freedom and personal asserted rights. We are so fooked.

The GOP will never support legislation to treat mental illness. It doesn't benefit rich people, corporations or anything else in their agenda, therefore it's a non-starter. They-just-don't-care.

The shooter shot and killed his grandmother before going to the school to kill 14 children. I think we can agree he was not well-adjusted.

Oregon has the dubious distinction of where modern day school shootings started. A year before Columbine a 15 year old murdered his parents, went to school, shot two kids and wounded about nineteen others.

Ya know, with the Constitution and originalists, it is all about where commas are placed. Never mind that when it was written the US was mostly a frontier, agrarian society where you had to have a gun to fight off beasties of any description.

Now that the NRA and gun manufacturers have a well oiled pipeline to all legislatures (and justices) pushing a decent amendment to the amendment will be nigh on impossible. The US is all about money.

But how do you regulate crazy people, psychotic people, mentally incompetent people, raging haters?
If we figure out how to identify and segregate the dangerous mental cases from normal people progress might be made.

My mom's visiting. She observed all the Hispanic names - the police chief, the town, the proximity to the Mexican border . And offer to bet me $100 that the shooter was white, and that the thing was racially tinged. Replacement theory again, trying to keep illegal or legal Hispanic kids from growing up and "replacing" "real" Americans.

I am here till my parents are gone. As both are in bad health, another 5 years I think. Because I was born in Spain, they make it fairly easy to immigrate there.
